[16:45] lwn.net has penguicon listed as happening in Ann Arbor. [16:47] wow, and they are doing Mask Mandate. thats surprising too. [16:47] * jrwren is surprised [16:53] At this stage? I mean it's not a horrible idea for a gathering of large people. [16:54] I still feel weird going to plays or amusement parks without them. I'll admit I'm not wearing one, but I still think to myself "I wonder how much spread is happening here today?" [17:19] Yeah, the mask mandate feels out of place. Especially since I think the CDC dropped the recommendation just recently? But con decided on masks before then. [17:20] and when there was a fuss about it they threw up a pole, and more people indicated they wouldn't come without a mask mandate than wouldn't come because of a mask mandate. [17:20] so... yay capitalism? [17:20] s/pole/poll [17:25] great use of polling the community. I'm not against, jsut surprised. [18:44] even with those poll numbers I'm curious what the actual usage will be :) [18:45] actual usage? do you mean mandate enforcement? [18:45] A bunch of chin diapers [18:45] lol, yup [18:46] I haven't gone to Penguicon in years. Most cons are just a moneygrab these days. [18:46] Wish I could afford Blackhat though. [18:47] As if they'd even let me in [19:29] penguicon was always just a giant party AFAICT. [19:30] I went to one, moderated a panel at a nother, crashed another, ~20yrs ago. My take away is: giant party. [19:38] that's basically my memory as well :) [19:39] I remember climbing across balconies to get into a hotel room that was locked (but we were supposed to have access to) but $conf_organizer was otherwise occupied (ahem) in their hotel room with a group of folks (ahem) [19:42] it was epic in who was there that year: Randall Monroe (didn't talk to), Mako, nixternal, Jono, and a bunch of us from the LoCo. [19:51] oh! i think i remember that year. I might have crashed that one too. [19:56] I remember riding in the back/storage area in some mid-sized SUV at the white castle drive-thru :) [19:57] again, party [23:19] Well if anyone knows Stu who ran the "Geeks with Guns" range and DJed the after party a few times he's a good friend of mine. [23:21] FWIR they didn't actually pay him, it was all volunteer work. I can understand the range I guess but he's a professional DJ who does weddings and actual events. Cut the man a paycheck! [23:21] again, moneygrab
