user|58Any advice on which version of KUBUNTU to load into Apple MacBook A1181 (misd 2007)?00:55
mybalzitchthe latest?01:37
user|86will kubuntu 24 lts ship with wayland option?04:01
valoriewe have shipped with the wayland option for years05:08
RikMillsvalorie: we don't on the 3 year LTS05:09
RikMillshaving it in the sddm menu, even as the non default suggests to people that it is fully supported05:09
valorieaha - not the option?05:09
RikMillswhich it is not05:09
valoriegot it05:10
RikMillsvalorie: we put in the release notes how to install it05:10
valorieperfect; I will remember that05:10
RikMillsbut stress it is not supported as x11 is05:10
valorieI'll possibly try it out on my travel lappy which is non-nvidia05:11
RikMillswith non LTS we risk having it there for asy testing05:11
RikMills*easy05:11
valoriebut so far no one has talked me into using it05:11
valorienot seeing the point yet05:11
RikMillsI think it will be a serious option for 24.1005:12
RikMillsin fact plasma 6 tries to default to it IIRC05:13
valorieright05:13
valoriewhich is fine if it works05:13
RikMillsthough I have a patch in sddm at the moment to ensure x11 is default05:14
valoriegood05:14
valoriestability is the point05:14
RikMillsexactly why we do what I said with each LTS05:15
valoriegot it05:15
DirkPetryHi, I use Kubuntu 22.04 since many months on a DELL Latitude E7470 laptop with e1000 ethernet card. This has always worked without problems until about one week ago. Now the OS no longer recognises the presence of the ethernet card. I can only connect via WiFi. I did not do any special software installation or modification to the OS.08:38
DirkPetryThe only way, a change to the OS could have come in, would be through the push of an automatic update from Kubuntu.08:38
DirkPetryIs anybody else experiencing the same problem?08:38
DirkPetryHas there been an update to the Kernel in the past weeks which might have affected ethernet card support?08:38
diogenessDirkPetry: there are many ways to test it out, first to try an  boot an older kernel, second to boot a live ISO and see if you get it working.09:07
BluesKajHi all12:23
Guest59Is there some documentation that explains how package versions are decided on between LTS releases? For example wine is 8.0.1 on Kubuntu 23.10, but I think it's around version 5 on LTS.16:57
IrcsomeBot<dchiodi0087> Hi guys, is anyone still using Plasma 5.24 with Ubuntu LTS? I'm having a bug with Discover..18:49
bpromptdchiodi008:  not me, I'm using 5.1818:50
IrcsomeBot<dchiodi0087> oh lol! (re @IrcsomeBot: <bprompt> dchiodi008:  not me, I'm using 5.18)21:40
IrcsomeBot<dchiodi0087> Anyway, when I click the categories (Applications, Applications Addons, or Plasma Addons) Discover get froze and then crashes21:45
bpromptdchiodi0087:  not sure if this is helpful, you could try installing whatever app through Muon Package Manager21:49
IrcsomeBot<dchiodi0087> yeah is what I'm doing right now to deflect the problem21:53
