Guest9566Hello, I have been using Xubuntu DT for it's stability. But I like most of KDE better. I just installed K 23.10 with just two issues so far. !. I want num lock at startup 2. after putting 9 apps in the  panel they are flakey. ideas? Thank you05:26
dreamhawkHi, i cant seem to connect to a host with nomachine, client running x11 and host running wayland, both kubuntu 23.10, what can be the issue?06:28
iomari891greetings, I'm on 23.10 and after the last update I did, my plasma desktop is black. THe mouse works but right clicking the desktop does nothing. I can open apps from the command line but the panel is not visible. Everything seems ok except no desktop. What might be causing this?08:26

dreamhawkWhen i try to login on a wayland-session, it gives me a black screen with a steady underscore "_" in the left screen... I have installed libnvidia-egl-wayland1.11:03
bombastickouch, support here is not on the level of #ubuntu12:45
bombastickCan someone using a preview of Kubuntu 24.04 let me know if in Konsole, you can click File -> New Tab  and it creates a new tab, without requiring a further click to select a profile? This is what kept me off Kubuntu 22.04 for 2 years.12:46

dreamhawkYeah, i dont know if most gurus are US-based or something, it can be tricky to get help from here. I have an issue with Wayland, it wont let me start a wayland-session, just a blank screen and "_" , .13:37
n0tl4mp3my favourite blinking underscore, I cannot help.13:43
n0tl4mp3maybe hours of internet research?13:44
n0tl4mp3Can anyone be "ontop of it all"?14:05
n0tl4mp3The Wayland stuff might be a GFXcard misunderstanding.14:08
user|42Secure Boot16:04
user|42Can Kubuntu work with Dell's Secure Boot?16:04
phoenixz@bombastick I don't think I ever have had to do that, in 25 years of KDE... For the past 15 or so I've used yakuake, which is a drop-down console system (press f12, and it drops down from the top) where you can manage multiple consoles in different tabs, and also multiple consoles in a single tab. Its all kinds of awesome and easy16:10
phoenixzNo clicks or anything like that needed16:10

xrandrHello there. I am using Kubuntu 23.10, and my audio is very crackly. I've been googling on how to resolve this, but so far nothing works. When audio is playing my CPU hikes up to almost 100%19:42
bpromptxrandr: audio is crackling on any player? or just one player or some players?19:44
xrandrall19:45
xrandralmost like it's lagging19:46
xrandrZoom calls have been the worst so far19:47
xrandrany idea what it could be?19:50
bpromptoffhand all I can think of is the drivers pulseaudio is using19:52
xrandrI think i'm using pipewire19:52
xrandrShould I remove pipewire and install pulseaudio?19:53
bpromptxrandr: dunno, I don't run 23.10, I've used pulseaudio all the time, but sure19:53
xrandrI'll try it19:54
xrandrrebooting19:57
xrandrThis seems to have worked20:04
xrandrremoved pipewire and installed pulseaudio20:04
bpromptxrandr: well, seems 23.10 likes pulseaudio, or the transition hasn't been finalized to pipewire20:07

Guest5653Hello, new to k. 1 how do I set num lock on at startup?  2 After putting 9 apps in panel, they blink but don't launch? Thannk you21:57
bpromptGuest5653: I don't use Kwin, and about the panel, you're referring to Kwin window manager specifically22:05
bpromptGuest5653: I think the numslock may just be in the UEFI/CMOS settings, that is, independent of the OS, and if there's such option, you can set it there, that said, you could use a Bash script at startup to have it so with the command -> https://bash.cyberciti.biz/guide/Turn_on_or_off_NumLock_leds22:11
bpromptGuest5653: you can most likely add that command to your ~/.profile file, so it's executed at startup22:12
