Would this laptop work well with kubuntu? [21:03] it has a finger print reader would that work with kubuntu [21:05] ah hmm good question. A good friend of mine is using kubuntu on a touch screen laptop and he hasn't really had any complaints. And I've had friends who have used finger print readers for sudo commands in terminal and other processes which require authentication several years ago. [21:08] the upcoming plasma 6 has touch screen support as well, might be missing some more advanced features but kubuntu 24.10 is still a while off so as a user I don't know how it will turn out. [21:11] finger print reader support can be a bit tricky. You often have to install additional packages but it may work out of the box as well === kubuntu is now known as noobaroo [22:06] hello === kubuntu is now known as noobaroo [22:07] noobaroo: allo === gimbleguy_ is now known as gimbleguy [23:22] gimbleguy: Old-style, metal-bar finger print readers typically work well. But area fingerprint readers have always had issues. So unless there's an updated library I'm missing, I don't think you can count on it. [23:26] aw mmikowski cheers [23:30] gimbleguy: I have an Asus with print-reader, I never use it =) [23:31] and I don't like touchpads, unless I'm doing something extremely light, otherwise I use a mouse, though the touchpad works fine
