IrcsomeBot | <Zebraherz> Hello there | 06:25 |
IrcsomeBot | <Zebraherz> I just wonder: has anyone successfully installed Kubuntu 24.04 (daily build) encrypted on an external hard disk? I must have tried this 10 times now (always different builds), but the damn new installer still fails. After script errors at the beginning, it now fails due to the partitioning. I have done this countless times with the old installer. | 06:25 |
IrcsomeBot | <Zebraherz> Where can I get the beta? Maybe it will work now... although I doubt it. | 06:25 |
guiverc | @Zebraherz... depending on the error, you may need to reboot the live session before you re-start calamares; as you can get strange issues if you attempt two installs when the first fails.. | 06:55 |
guiverc | fyi: there are numerous links on getting beta, but I'd not use it.. https://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/452/builds shows the beta is 20240411.2 where as current daily is actually 20240412 (ie. includes more fixes!; taken from https://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/450/builds).. both can be found anyway at cdimage.ubuntu.com | 06:59 |
IrcsomeBot | <Zebraherz> I never tried to install a second time with the same build, when the install fails (as always till now). (re @IrcsomeBot: <guiverc> @Zebraherz... depending on the error, you may need to reboot the live session before you re-start calamares; as you can get strange issues if you attempt two installs when the first fails..) | 06:59 |
IrcsomeBot | <Zebraherz> I will try it again, with the current daily build... IrcsomeBot | <Zebraherz> I did this before weeks with a daily build (but too buggy)... but I can`t remember the exact command. I had to google it. (re @mr_honesty1: How i can upgrade 23.10 to beta version?) | 10:05 |
IrcsomeBot | <mr_honesty1> If it's too buggy so it's not recommended to regular use (re @Zebraherz: I did this before weeks with a daily build (but too buggy)... but I can`t remember the exact command. I had to google it.) | 10:05 |
IrcsomeBot | <Zebraherz> That`s why I use external drives... for testing and playing around (re @mr_honesty1: If it's too buggy so it's not recommended to regular use) | 10:08 |
IrcsomeBot | <mr_honesty1> Ah ok thanks broh 👍 (re @Zebraherz: That`s why I use external drives... for testing and playing around) | 10:08 |
IrcsomeBot | <Zebraherz> Thanks. I will try to install it encrypted on a external drive.. and give feedback. (re @IrcsomeBot: <mparillo> https://wiki.ubuntu.com/NobleNumbat/Beta/Kubuntu) | 10:11 |

ADtsd | Hi! What are minimal system requirments for Kubuntu 22.4.4 LTS? Just thinking about reviving an old laptop which runs Windows 10 pretty terribly. | 11:55 |
mparillo | I can run it on a T410 with 4GB of memory. Your applications (most commonly web browser with multiple tabs) may force you to swap, and in that case you absolutely need an SSD. | 12:57 |
BluesKaj | Hi all | 13:02 |
KALT | When is Plasma 6.x in Kubuntu? | 20:22 |
bprompt | KALT: hmmm I heard likely till October in 24.10, definetely not in 24.04 | 20:37 |
bprompt | KALT: and even in 24.10 it may be in Beta version | 20:37 |
KALT | Thanks for the in bprompt. | 20:41 |

IrcsomeBot | <Zebraherz> The beta installer also fails during partitioning. You guys at Kubuntu should take a closer look at this yourselves. I don't think it's my system, the previous installer works fine. By the way, in my setup there is ONLY the external disk, no internal disk and no other OS.
