ComputerTech | Updated to Ubuntu 24.04 beta, but the Gnome Camera App keeps giving the error: "Could not play camera stream" | 14:51 |

ComputerTech | Any ideas? | 14:51 |

-ubottu:#ubuntu-next- Issue 134 in GNOME/snapshot "'Could not play camera stream'" [Closed] | 15:00
tomreyn | if you can file a bug on this on launchpad, there's a chance this could get fixed before release | 15:02 |
tomreyn | apparently the issue is with pipewire | 15:02 |
lotuspsychje | there exists a bug already tomreyn ComputerTech | 15:33 |
lotuspsychje | bug #2060390 | 15:33 |
-ubottu:#ubuntu-next- Bug 2060390 in gnome-snapshot (Ubuntu) "Snapshot No Camera Found" [High, Triaged] https://launchpad.net/bugs/2060390 | 15:33
tomreyn | that's "could not play camera stream" vs. "no camera found", though. those *may* be related, but i assume the root cause would differ. | 15:36 |
tomreyn | https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pipewire/pipewire/-/issues/3959 vs https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pipewire/pipewire/-/issues/3960 | 15:38 |
-ubottu:#ubuntu-next- Issue 3959 in pipewire/pipewire "Camera format negotiation regression on 1.0 branch (not on master)" [Closed] | 15:38
-ubottu:#ubuntu-next- Issue 3960 in pipewire/pipewire "Snapshot doesn't recognize cameras on Ubuntu" [Opened] | 15:38
lotuspsychje | im getting same warning as ComputerTech | 15:39 |
tomreyn | so that's upstream 3959 | 15:40 |
lotuspsychje | https://dpaste.org/8NMKW | 15:41 |
lotuspsychje | so i should file a new one right tomreyn ? | 15:45 |
lotuspsychje | or wait until fixed upstream? | 15:46 |
tomreyn | lotuspsychje: my understanding is that it's always good to have a tracking bug for upstream bug reports, so the need to get these patches into ubuntu isn't overlooked. (the upstream bug report discusses a new pipewire release fixing this issue to be likely happening on Monday. and bug 2059726 might be the same issue - though i have not compared the trace) | 15:50 |
-ubottu:#ubuntu-next- Bug 2059726 in gnome-snapshot (Ubuntu) "GNOME Snapshot doesn't show webcam image" [Undecided, Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/2059726 | 15:50
lotuspsychje | tomreyn: getting something similar; https://dpaste.org/a8fF6 | 15:52 |
lotuspsychje | my version of gnome-snapshot differs though | 15:53 |
lotuspsychje | but it looks like the same bug | 15:53 |
lotuspsychje | gnome-snapshot: | 15:53 |
lotuspsychje | Geïnstalleerd: 46.0-1ubuntu2 | 15:53 |
tomreyn | i'm sorry, i'm a bit sick today and not really in thhe mood for debugging. also hardly qualified. | 15:58 |
lotuspsychje | dont worry tomreyn ill update bug 2059726 pretty sure its the same | 15:59 |

lotuspsychje | updated tomreyn ComputerTech | 16:04 |
rfm | Strange but reproducible behavior on Xubuntu noble in a VirtualBox VM. First login after boot fails, pops back to greeter with lots of "can't access X server" errors in .xsession-errors. Second login *almost* succeeds except for the vbox clipboard manager; restarting that works. It's like a timing error, where the session startup is running before Xorg is completely initialized. | 18:12 |
rfm | by the second start up, things are warmed up and Xorg gets going quicker. Can't figure out where I should report this. | 18:13 |
rfm | well, I chose xfce4-session to file the bug 2061246 | 19:35 |
rfm | and it appears to be just xorg crashing, not some weird race condition after all, duped to #2061245 which is GNOME-on-Xorg | 21:44 |
