indyZdonofrio: Those are the packages for Noble Numbat on x86-64. Why wouldn't it pull from that URL?00:05
pycuriousOn 24.04lts - apt update - > Warning: The unit file, source configuration file or drop-ins of apt-news.service changed on disk. Run 'systemctl daemon-reload' to reload units. - any ideas on how to fix this?01:15
donofrioindyZ, that is the question.....I do not know, so I'm asking here ;)01:29
indyZdonofrio: then I guess the answer is, because that is where the updated packages are for 24.04. :)02:25
lotuspsychjegnome-snapshot is working this morning05:08
lotuspsychje!info gnome-snapshot05:21
ubottugnome-snapshot (46.2-1ubuntu2, noble): Take pictures and videos from your webcam. In component main, is optional. Built by gnome-snapshot. Size 619 kB / 1,836 kB05:21
donofrio__indyZ, is this a correct sources.list for 24.04? https://paste.opensuse.org/pastes/82a6f2212e9813:25
donofrio__here is output from this morning update https://paste.opensuse.org/pastes/8297e611ba0b (donofrio@F100213830:~$ sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade -y && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade -y && sudo apt-get autoremove -y && sudo apt-get autoclean && sudo sync && sudo sync)13:28
schopindonofrio__: How did you upgrade your system? The supported procedure should have migrated your sources.list to sources.list.d/ubuntu.sources13:35
donofrio__upgrade?  I just grabed the cloud image and booted from that then updated using the apt-get line showed above....13:38
donofrio__from here https://cloud-images.ubuntu.com/noble/current/noble-server-cloudimg-amd64.squashfs13:40
schopinSorry, it was an assumption on my part :)13:40
donofrio__it's all good13:40
donofrio__I'm here to learn ;)13:40
donofrio__cloud images change the whole notion of install when you just drop it in place and let wsl2 use it.....13:41
donofrio__schopin, how do I create this ubuntu.sources file? https://github.com/canonical/cloud-init/issues/469115:46

tomreynbunjee: there is also package 'hplip-gui' in case you want to configure the printer with that.21:10
bunjeenewbie here - please help me setup my HP printer - it's already working wirelessly via Windows....21:11
tomreynhere's another thing kawal said after you had disconnected: <kawal> the graphic way as root: system-config-printer, then add with the printer IP, the model is listed , though with direct wifi connect you can't connec to the internet but it works anyway.21:11
bunjeetomreyn: I thought I was in another channel....sorry - pretty new, hunh? I could not understand what kawal was stating...21:13
tomreynbunjee: we were previously talking in #ubuntu, now we'Re talking in #ubuntu-next. which is fine, because #ubuntu-next is currently where you get support with what will be 24.04 LTS in a week, when it releases.21:14
tomreyn(and when it releases, support for it moves to #ubuntu)21:14
bunjeetomreyn: gotcha...this is what I got back - apt install hplip-qui21:15

tomreynthe package is called hplip-Gui, with a gee, not a queue21:16
tomreyn(setting your irc client to use a monotype font may help with reading things properly.)21:17
bunjeetomreyn: what is the command I type in front of hplip-Gui21:20
tomreynsudo apt update && sudo apt install hplip-gui21:21
bunjeetomreyn: where do I find commands like the one you just sent me21:23
tomreyn!terminal21:23
ubottuThe linux terminal or command-line interface is very powerful. In Unity or GNOME, search the dash for "terminal" and press ENTER. Other desktops: Applications -> System Tools -> Terminal (MATE), K-menu -> System -> Konsole (KDE), or Menu -> Accessories -> LXTerminal (LXDE). Guide: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UsingTheTerminal21:23
tomreynyou seem to have stated that you're using a pre-release of Kubuntu 24.04. So Konsole is the terminal emulator you'd use there to be able to enter such commands. And then you could follow that Guide ^ to use some common commands.21:25
tomreynanother way to install packages graphically on kubuntu is using the "Discover" application21:26
tomreynthis uses either "apt" or "snap" package management utilities in the background, i think21:27
bunjeeI just am frustrated because I can't print from my PC with Kubuntu 24.0422:29
bunjeeHow do I install a .tar.gz file?22:30
sarnolduntar it, read the README, do what it says22:59
sarnoldthough if it's a printer driver thing, maybe *don't* do what it says, because the people who make printers are not your friends and shouldn't be trusted23:00
indyZdonofrio__: my /etc/apt/sources.list is empty. Instead I have /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ubuntu sources with 2 sources listed. I'm just using a recent 24.04 beta iso, fresh install with extra sources (for drivers etc, set in the installer) and an apt update.23:26
indyZdonofrio__: so, I'm not sure why your sources.list would be populated like that23:27
toddcdonofrio__: I have the same on my test 24.04 but have yet to try to figure it out23:39
toddcmight check #ubuntu-next23:40
* sarnold idly wonders where toddc thinks this is23:40
sarnolddonofrio_: you might have missed this while timing out: 2024-04-18 23:39:25 < toddc> donofrio__: I have the same on my test 24.04 but have yet to try to figure it out23:42
toddcI did not take the time   but it did add nextcloud ppa and shows in gui but not in either sources or .d so new location? or beta  I fiugerd I would wait till release and retest23:45
toddcsarnold: ahh thought i was in #ubuntu23:47
