eugenesanarraybolt3: Looks better, though seems like you are testing on a higher resolution. My VM defaults to 1280x800.00:00
arraybolt3Almost have it perfect...00:04
arraybolt3alright, that's as good as we're going to get. There's no one perfect answer for all resolutions sadly, but this one looks good on 4:3 and on 1920x1080, so I think I found the right values.00:05
eugenesanarraybolt3: (y)00:06
arraybolt3and it works on something around 4K too looks like00:08
RikMillseugenesan: thought about adding htop before. would be good with that for next release00:19
* RikMills wakes up after quick snooze00:19
RikMillsthere are probably a few more terminal utils that would be good to have00:22
RikMillsand not cost very much to have00:22
arraybolt3RikMills: Could you add zram-config to the seed real quick? https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/calamares-settings-ubuntu/+bug/206242800:28
-ubottu:#kubuntu-devel- Launchpad bug 2062428 in calamares-settings-ubuntu (Ubuntu) "Install randomly crashes/fails/hangs on systems with 3GB or less" [Undecided, New]00:28
arraybolt3if not, I need to know now since that influences what I do next00:28
arraybolt3either that or else we have to convince the Release Team that the inability to install on systems with <3GB RAM is release-critical.00:30
arraybolt3I suppose though making a change that breaks installation until that component is added creates something release critical though... >:)00:31
arraybolt3but not a risk I want to take00:31
arraybolt3RikMills: are you there?00:32
RikMillsarraybolt3: not going to do that based on one unconfirmed bug report00:32
arraybolt3Understood. Then we shall have to live without it this time around unless we can reproduce it and discover that it's release-critical.00:32
arraybolt3Uploading without the zram-config changes.00:32
RikMillsarraybolt3: 1) we have time to assess it before release 2) it could be addressed in a SRU for 24.04.100:34
arraybolt3both true00:34
arraybolt3And with that, the branding size fixes are now in. Looks a ton better.00:37
arraybolt3Alright, I need a break, this was intense and long and hard. Looks like we have a lot of things a ton better now though!00:40
RikMillsarraybolt3: take the break. it is well earned :)00:41
arraybolt3one thing I'm remembering - the pkgselect module is offering Thunderbird as an *additional* application to install (it does this on all three of Lubuntu, Kubuntu, Ubuntu Unity). Kubuntu ships with Thunderbird preinstalled though. Two options - we can figure out how to add detection logic to pkgselect so that it doesn't offer thunderbird on Kubuntu (theoretically easy but I don't know how to00:55
arraybolt3do distro detection in Calamares), or we can unseed Thunderbird (definitely easy but potentially undesirable). Thoughts?00:55
* arraybolt3 figures out how to do the distro detection in the mean time00:56

arraybolt3oh fun.00:58
arraybolt3Rick_Timmis: ^00:58
RikMillshe wont be around for 8 hrs or so00:59
arraybolt3Unless he's put them somewhere I don't know, he's the only one with the slideshow source files.00:59
RikMillsnot a huge deal but somthing to fix beforre final images get done01:00
RikMillsurgh my typing is going to ****01:01

RikMillswell, lubuntu should install thunderbird01:09
* RikMills runs and hides01:09
arraybolt3RikMills: heh01:11
RikMillsarraybolt3 et al: ok, despite a tactical snooze earleir, it is late here, so going to call it a day01:17

sgmooreugh anyone with a dual boot setup to test install alongside?08:41

-ubottu:#kubuntu-devel- Launchpad bug 2062075 in calamares (Ubuntu) "Ubuntu installer does not detect other operating systems" [Undecided, Confirmed]09:15
rick-timmisI'm on going on Vacation with my Wife from tomorrow, and will be AFK until May 7th. Thank you all, for the extensive efforts you have put in to make this last Plasma 5 LTS release just sheer perfection!! 12:14
sgmooreHave fun rick-timmis!12:25
BluesKajHi all13:12
RikMillsmmikowski: I love the updated plymouth glow :)14:03
rick-timmis^ +1 It's superb14:29
arraybolt3sgmoore: I'll test it today on physical hardware. Dual-boot Win10 and Kubuntu 24.04 is what I'll try.14:47
IrcsomeBot<sgmoore> Ok thanks, the bug report now has conflicting information. I do believe my test I did not have a big enough partition. (re @IrcsomeBot: <arraybolt3> sgmoore: I'll test it today on physical hardware. Dual-boot Win10 and Kubuntu 24.04 is what I'll try.)14:49
arraybolt3It sounds to me like there's two bugs - install alongside missing sometimes, and GRUB not running os-prober. Both of those are important to look into.14:50
arraybolt3Also the os-prober instance might not be limited to us.14:50
mmikowskiTy RikMills rick-timmis. It's a sinusoidal glow, which might be different. But otherwise it is very much like what Eickmeyer did for 22.04 and whoever did it before that.16:12
mmikowskisgmoore any luck on snaps theming?16:13
mmikowskihttps://www.reddit.com/r/Kubuntu/comments/1c7xz8j/comment/l0bdql3/16:26
IrcsomeBot<sgmoore> Lol sorry no. That has been an issue for as long as I have been doing. So if you choose breeze, it works. Because it is coded into snapd. Custom colors not so much. The way I see it, it's something that needs to be brought up to snapd in the form of a bug. Which I will do, but it won't affect release as snaps are independent.16:26
IrcsomeBot<sgmoore> mmikowski ^16:26
mmikowskiIt just struck me that the first thing people will do after installing is open Firefox, so yeah, bummer.16:27
mmikowskiThanks, sgmoore, for it.16:27
mmikowski*got it.16:28
IrcsomeBot<sgmoore> Yeah and there are many existing bug reports. I will get with snapd team. Snaps are important to me. I maintain 200 of them lol16:29
rick-timmismmikowski Put this up on the board, please share your thoughts if you have any insights. https://invent.kde.org/teams/distribution-kubuntu/2024-25-strategic-plan/-/issues/2916:31
-ubottu:#kubuntu-devel- Issue 29 in teams/distribution-kubuntu/2024-25-strategic-plan "Securely Shared Credentials via KeePassXC" [Opened]16:31
arraybolt3Currently installing Windows (:-/) for testing the dual boot issue.16:40
mmikowskirick-timmis added a note about KeePass2Android which I use and enjoy.16:40
arraybolt3sgmoore: Dual-boot Kubuntu 24.04 and Windows 10 is working perfectly fine here. Install alongside appeared, GRUB lists both operating systems and can boot into either of them.17:40
arraybolt3One thing I do note is that the logout screen and SDDM screen still show a blue-on-transparency Kubuntu logo.17:46
arraybolt3So does the lock screen.17:46
arraybolt3(this using the latest daily ISO)17:46
arraybolt3And I have the latest kubuntu-settings installed.17:47
IrcsomeBot<sgmoore> Yes, your upload didn't make archive yet when I checked18:01
arraybolt3sgmoore: I just checked it and the upload had made the archive and is present on the latest ISO I believe.18:02
arraybolt3kubuntu-settings 1:24.04.1018:03
mmikowskisgmoore: So I can download and test now, and those icons will be fixed?18:03
arraybolt3That's the ISO I just installed with that has the broken icons.18:04
IrcsomeBot<sgmoore> Ffs. I copied the same icon to sddm as the rest. I am not at home.18:04
mmikowskisgmoore arraybolt3: We might be running into cache problems on either end. arraybolt3 it might be that your current user has the old .face icon.18:05
arraybolt3I don't see how that's possible since it's a brand new install.18:05
arraybolt3As in, I literally installed it and it immediately booted up with the issue.18:05
arraybolt3Lemme check the repo...18:05
mmikowskiBecause .face gets installed once from skel and then it's stuck.18:05
mmikowskiOne solution that may work is to use a symlink; that way, if the user keeps the default icon, it is updated to the latest always until they decide to change it.18:06
arraybolt3sgmoore: you might have copied the wrong file. In kubuntu-settings kubuntu_noble_archive, desktop/sddm/themes/kubuntu/faces/.face.icon is a blue logo with a transparent background.18:07
mmikowskiarraybolt3: Probably best if you put that in place since you have direct push access?18:08
arraybolt3yep, I'll fix it and push now.18:08
mmikowskiI can get you the file.18:08
mmikowskiDo you have it?18:08
arraybolt3I do not.18:08
mmikowskiok, then let me get you one.18:08
mmikowskiWe need to set it up so that it works on light and dark background, so it needs a line edge of the opposite value.18:09
arraybolt3it looks like we went from a blue logo with a white background to a blue logo with a transparent background. So therein lies the issue, wrong file copied. Nothing an upload and a ping won't fix.18:09
mmikowskiHere I'll go with White and a muted blue-grey outline pulled from our wallpaper.18:09
mmikowskiarraybolt3 do you have facilities to test?18:10
mmikowskiLike can you change it now and see an immediate effect (or like 1m cycle times?)18:10
mmikowskiif so, we might be well served to do an interactive design over video. I think that would work fastest.18:10
arraybolt3Probably.18:10
arraybolt3Dog needs outside first.18:11
arraybolt3sorry for the dela18:11
arraybolt3y18:11
mmikowskiok, when you come back, can you check?18:11
arraybolt3yep18:11
mmikowskiI'll work on the "perfect" bug here :)18:11
mmikowskisgmoore: We probably can do this, so you can enjoy your day :)18:11
mmikowskiWe'll ping you if we need more help.18:12
mmikowskiThanks for all you've done. I'm sure this is well beyond your contract already.18:12
arraybolt3mmikowski: Alright, back.18:27
mmikowskigood timing.18:28
IrcsomeBot<sgmoore> I am so Sorry, I copied the same .face.icon front etc/skel so that needs to checked too.18:42
arraybolt3np, should be an easy fix18:51
mmikowskisgmoore: You want to choose?19:05
mmikowskiwe have mockups on screen right now.19:05
mmikowskihttps://meet.google.com/esh-pyyf-vtj19:05
mmikowskijust stop in and pick one :)19:06
