[05:37] -queuebot:#lubuntu-devel- Unapproved: calamares-settings-ubuntu (noble-proposed/universe) [1:24.04.38 => 1:24.04.39] (lubuntu, ubuntustudio) === guiverc2 is now known as guiverc [11:16] https://dpaste.com/BSKHFZT5T [15:36] finally found the cause of LP: #2060624 [15:36] -ubottu:#lubuntu-devel- Launchpad bug 2060624 in grub2 (Ubuntu) "lubuntu/xubuntu reinstall (& install) on dual boot system, grub does appear & offer OS choice" [Undecided, New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/2060624 [15:37] left an explanation on the ticket, absolutele nightmare bug, took days to debug. now we just need a solution, with a no-reformat re-install grub-mkconfig needs to know that it is not a normal config re-generation and to ignore the existing config [15:38] mkukri: You're amazing, thank you :) [15:39] no worries :) [15:39] also thanks to the guiverc for finding an impossible bug [15:39] it seems like this existed for a long long time [15:42] i guess the easiest fix is for the installer to nuke the grub data from disk before reinstalling, but that might be undesirable for some cases? [15:47] That was my first thought, heh [15:47] mkukri: In what cases do you see it being undesirable? [15:48] i guess if the user has some wierd grub customizations they want to keep? [15:48] although those go into /etc/grub ideally [19:59] just in case this was missed: https://lubuntu.me currently still says "Version 22.04 new! Featuring LXQt desktop" [19:59] downloads are 24.04 already, and there's the blog post, too [20:01] mmm, that's something we do need to fix [20:02] mkukri, tsimonq2: I have been known to, uh, write grub.cfg from scratch in some corner cases :P That being said just usual GRUB updates are liable to wipe out stunts like that so I wouldn't worry about it too much. Maybe back up the existing file? [22:04] i guess copying it to a bak file or something could be fine [22:04] and this needs to be fixed seperately in the desktop installer and calamares i guess [22:39] :) [23:12] Thank you mkukri for working out issue & great explanation on bug report
