[01:20] Hi everyone. Is there anyone here that uses a Wacom tablet on Xubuntu 22.04 and Firefox 126.0? === guiverc2 is now known as guiverc [06:23] ifconfig [06:24] d [06:57] Hi everyone. I need someone to confirm this: Since the upgrade to Firefox 126.0 I'm having issues with drag-n-drop in firefox. When I select random text from a site in the browser and drag the selection and let it drop back, all dragging and dropping ceases in firefox. So no dragging dropping of urls, tabs and selected texts. [06:58] To enable dragging and dropping again, I must restart firefox or... drag some random text from outside the application unto the url bar so that it causes it to open en new tab. Then dragging and dropping functionality is restored again. Until the nest time you accidentally drag a selected block again. [07:00] I noticed that the following conditions play a role: This only happens in firefox versions 126.0 and above, and (this is important!), I'm suing a wacom pen tablet as input device while doing the dragging and dropping. [07:01] So if there's anyone here that uses Xubuntu 22.04, firefox 126.0 or above and a wacom pen tablet as input device. I'd like to hear if you experience the same problem as just described. [07:02] I made this animated gif to illustrate the problem: https://imgur.com/a/O7Z30dT [07:09] I tried this a few times and it worked as expected. but I had another go and accidentally copied an image with the text and that triggered the problem [07:10] Xubuntu 22.04 FF 126 [07:11] ruenoak: Thank you for your reply! That's new to me. I didn't try images so I'll see if what happens when I try that. [07:12] are you picking up a hiden image maybe on the page or FF thinks there is one [07:12] No, I tried dragging selected text only. There are no images on the page I tested. [07:13] Yes, images work just the same for me too. [07:14] I will try a page of just text [07:14] So dragging images and selected text trigger this bug for me. [07:17] I can confirm I have the same issue with text only too [07:18] That unfortunate. But hurray! I got confirmation. I'm going to make a bug report for this. [07:19] Are you using the firefox snap? [07:20] No, APT from mozilla. But I tried snap and it behaves the exact same way. [07:20] Also tried different kernels [07:20] Okay was just thought [07:20] Different firefox versions [07:24] I just tried FF ESR on Debian and I don't seem to get the bug [07:26] O that's great. Can you tell me where and how to install that version? [07:27] Debian come with it installed Its the LTS version of FF [07:27] I think it is in the repo firefox-esr [07:28] Ok. So, can I add a PPA to install this version on my Xubuntu 22.04 system? [07:29] What version-number does the ESR version have? [07:29] I can only find ESR version 115.10 and 115.11 [07:31] The latest esr is 115 It an LTS version so extended support [07:33] Ah, ok. I see. I already tried the normal APT versions below 126 and they worked for me too. It's only version 126.0 and above that produce this problem. I guess that probably goes for the ESR versions too. But we'll have to wait and see for that version to hit 126.0 too. [07:35] To be sure, I'll install the ESR version too. See what happens... [07:36] All good [07:36] Yep, its's version ESR 115.11 from mozillateam [07:37] Yes, confirmed: ESR 115.11 works as expected. [07:38] Now what we need to know: Will it stay that way when ESR 126.0 comes out? I'll look if there's a ESR 126.0 beta testing version out there. [07:42] https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/choosing-firefox-update-channel [07:42] I'me not sure what version number the next ESR will be [07:43] I'm guessing 126.0 But I haven't found it yet. I don;t know if there's a beta/testing ESR version somewhere? [07:47] Here we go https://whattrainisitnow.com/calendar/ [07:47] So the next major esr version will be FF 131 [07:48] sorry 128 [07:49] So the nightly for 128 is out now it looks like [07:51] The current ESR version is 115.11 To what Firefox version does that correspond? If it is 126.0 you could be right and the ESR version don;t have this bug. [07:52] Ah! Found it: https://whattrainisitnow.com/release/?version=126 -> "Corresponding ESR release 115.11.0" [07:53] yes [07:54] So, that's good news! We can use the ESR versions of firefox. Meanwhile I'll submit a bug report so developers know about this. [07:56] Thanks ruenoak. This was great help! [07:56] Not a problem [08:48] ruenoak: Just to make sure, I'll post the same question on the #ubuntu channel. I',m wondering if this bug only applies to Xubuntu or if all Ubuntu versions are affected. [09:33] Bibbles, interesting you ask that question I just tested my Debian laptop running FF 126 The Binary package and it works as expected [09:34] running Xfce Debian 12 [09:36] Yes, it could be Xubuntu specific but I don't have confirmation from someone using some of the other blends of Ubuntu. Maybe I can try running Ubuntu from a live USB, install firefox 126.0 and see what happens. I already tried doing that for an Xubuntu 22.04 live USB and it produced the same problem. [09:48] you could install it in a vm maybe [09:53] I also tried that :D [09:53] It didn't produce a problem. But a VM is not really representative of the real thing I think. [09:55] Just remembered I ave a 24.04 Ubuntu installed on a second drive, tested it on that and it work as expected [09:55] FF 126 snap [09:55] So, no problems on 24.04? [09:56] yes seem to be okay [09:57] Thanks. I'll add that to the bug report too. [09:59] No problem [10:00] Would you like the credit or should I just refer to ' 'a user on #xubuntu'? ;) [10:03] I din't need credit it's all good [10:03] :) === kiska31 is now known as kiska3 === Exterminador_ is now known as Exterminador === diogeness_ is now known as diogeness === tomg_ is now known as tomg
