cyskusHello, I recently updated from Kubuntu 23.10 to Kubuntu 24.04.  After the upgrade however I get a black screen after Grub.  It appears that everything works correctly if I go into the advanced options for Ubuntu in Grub and select the prior kernel version (6.5.0-35-generic instead of 6.8.0-31-generic).  Are there troubleshooting steps that I can take to attempt to determine the issue with the newer kernel?  Thanks in advance.00:39
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> Hi cyskus, Do you have an AMD GPU?00:40
cyskusNote that nothing in the syslog seemed to indicate why this would be happening; I additionally did a full DPKG check and ran "update-initramfs -u" to see if something went wrong.00:41
cyskusYes, I do have an AMD GPU (Radeon RX 6600).00:41
nuxilremove quiet and splash from your linux grub line.00:42
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> Ah, I ran into the same issue. Try this:00:42
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> After upgrade to 20.04, some AMD GPU systems encounter a black screen on reboot.  To fix, either remove splash from the grub boot menu or add "amdgpu" to /etc/initramfs-tools/modules then run "sudo update-initramfs -u".00:42
nuxilcyskus, its damn plymouth or whats it called.00:42
cyskusI'll take a look to see if that's in the kernel command line, thanks!00:43
nuxilcyskus, you can hold shift in at boot.. and edit the grub line at boot. but it will not be saved tho.00:43
nuxili had the exact problem..00:44
nuxil*same00:44
cyskusIt appears that editing the Grub kernel command line has resolved the issue; thanks once again for the assistance!00:51
cyskusI wonder what AMD GPUs are affected by this; I have the newer kernel running on my laptop (which has an AMD RX 680M GPU) without having to modify the Linux commandline.  I'll continue to monitor for any changes in behaviour on the laptop.00:55
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> You may also find that your PC may  crash when waking from sleep.  This problem has not yet been solved.  Mine crashes about 60% of the time with kernels 6.8 and newer. Bug reported here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/206583800:57
-ubottu:#kubuntu- Launchpad bug 2065838 in linux (Ubuntu) "System crash on resume from sleep" [Undecided, New]00:57
cyskusThanks for the heads up on that issue, I'll be monitoring that as well00:59
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> I have a few systems, only my AMD system (my primary PC!) has the crash on resume issue. From what I can tell, this issue affects multiple distro's and kernel version 6.8 and higher.01:10

avre001Hello. Is support for ARM processors expected?07:38
dreamhawkStill having issues with bluetooth + bose qc :( . I see some is using AAC and not SBC as audio-codec. AAC is not an option in my Pavucontrol, do i have to do something special to get it working?07:57

webchat41Hello!10:21
webchat41Not sure if I'm in the right place here, but I thought I'd try10:21
webchat41I've updated to Kubuntu 24.04 yesterday and since then both my keyboard and mouse don't work properly anymore10:22
webchat41it's not constant, but every couple of minutes (usually when I Alt-Tab from one window to the next), many of the keyboard's keys stop working10:23
webchat41e.g. I can still type the letter d but not the 10 or so keys next to it10:23
webchat41when I tab to another window a couple of times it usually fixes itself10:23
webchat41I did notice one or two times I had an IDE window focus and while I was typing the content of the browser window I had focused before started jumping around10:25
webchat41so it kind of seems like the keyboard focus is not correctly following the window focus maybe?10:25
webchat41also, the update also had some strange effect on the scroll wheel of the mouse. Occasionally (I would say every 30-60 minutes), when I try to scroll down some webpage for example, it immediately scrolls back up10:26
webchat41does anyone have an idea what might be causing this? It's kind of making the computer almost impossible to use10:27
BluesKajHi all12:59
