---|---|---|
alius | After the install I just change the display scalling to 125% and reboot, now all I see is a black screen when computer starts | 06:54 |
BluesKaj | Hi all | 12:57 |
nuxil | " now all I see is a black screen when computer starts " ... this is such a common issue for amd rigs.. why has it not been fixed ? | 13:17 |
KarenTheDorf | I *only* get a corrupted screen after sleep or vterm switch. Have yet to find a root cause but I'm assuming in my case it's the radeon driver (vs the modern amdgpu) | 13:18 |
nuxil | yup | 13:18 |
KarenTheDorf | Unfortunately, I'm 1 generation away on this laptop from being able to use amdgpu. Sadness. | 13:19 |
VanUnamed | i dont get why jdowloader can remove files from a folder | 14:33 |
VanUnamed | but when i go and explore it, it says it's all empty and can't save into it | 14:33 |
VanUnamed | "If you're running JD on Linux and have installed it via community package stores Snap or Flatpak you probably ran into a permission issue as both are limiting folder access." | 14:35 |
KarenTheDorf | Removing files needs w permission on the folder. Listing it's contents needs r and making a new file needs wx, I think? Directory permissions are confusing. | 14:40 |
VanUnamed | its jd thats stupid | 14:45 |
VanUnamed | permissionsare all open | 14:45 |
KarenTheDorf | Odd. It should be possible for snap/flatpak to request file system access in a secure way (or just bust the metaphorical door down with snap's --classic flag) | 14:47 |
VanUnamed | reinstalling outside of "snap" direct from installer solved it | 14:48 |
VanUnamed | the funny was, i could DELETE, files from those folders through it | 14:48 |
VanUnamed | but not WRITE | 14:48 |
VanUnamed | yay! fixed it | 14:49 |
KarenTheDorf | Snap sandbox is allowing directory access to the folder but not the correct access to make files in the directory. | 14:49 |
VanUnamed | idk what this snap ting is | 14:49 |
KarenTheDorf | I've had weirdness with running vscode as a snap and wnet back to .deb. It was starting programs I wrote inside the snap container which caused issues. | 14:50 |
KarenTheDorf | Snap installs programs as self contained containers with specific and limited permissions to the system (e.g. a text editor shouldn't be able to read from your webcam). It also bundles most dependencies with the application rather than using the system-installed ones, which should prevent issues. But in practice I personally have more issues with snap applciations than benefits. | 14:51 |
