Scary_GuyI do have RGB, but it's all on so it looks white, and only really visible when I open it up to be used as a work light.00:01
wolfgerLOL. Saying something is overpriced compared to what you paid on eBay 23 years ago is pretty absurd. Literally everything is considerably more expensive now than it was then. Still, $140 for a case does seem a bit much, even if it is artistic and not a boring rectangle.11:23
Scary_Guy$26.57 for a MasPar MP-2204 is a much better deal even if I did have to spend a bit more to actually go get it from NYC.11:27
Scary_GuySo yeah, I probably did pay more, but I can pretty much guarantee that no one has my case.11:28
Scary_GuyAlso I like boring rectangles.  They don't try to look all "edgy" or "hard." They don't try to overhype what they are.11:31
jrwreni too prefer the minimal aesthetic and acknowledge that its not for everyone11:33
Scary_GuyI mean don't get me wrong, I do love me some aesthetics, I just happen to think that most in the gaming category are ugly as hell.11:34
Scary_Guyhttps://www.musicradar.com/news/tech/39-amazing-steampunk-computer-mods-200834 like a lot of this is pretty cool, not all of it but a lot of it.11:35
jrwrenah. I can appreciate some of those.11:38
Scary_Guyhttps://www.core77.com/posts/25421/jeffrey-stephensons-architectural-art-deco-computer-tower-25421 I think I just came11:38
jrwrenI more don't care at all what my desktop computer looks like. I never have. I'd be fine with the ugly beige and olive thing I had in 199211:39
Scary_GuyYeah, it isn't a fashion show.  But then I remember that Cray quote...11:39
wolfgerI'm not trying to say rectangles are good or bad, but they are inherently cheaper to manufacture, and hence also cheaper to buy. I do tend to make purchasing decisions based on price myself. I usually wind up with "boring rectangle with a mildly interesting facade"11:41
Scary_GuyI can't find it, but it was something like "If you are going to spend one-million on a computer you kind of want it to look nice."11:41

jrwrenI think it depends on where the box sits. on a desk in a visible place of my home, I might want something that doesn't look ugly. In my basement(which is where everything I have is) i don't care at all.13:59
jrwrenin a child's bedroom? BLINKING FLASHING LIGHTS!13:59
wolfgerlol13:59
Scary_GuyDepends on what the child likes, and if they're able to sleep with lights on.  I have a friend who shuts off every light except for the LEDs when he goes to bed because it'll just keep him up.14:01
Scary_GuyHe's also working on making an oil submerged system.  Not much light coming out of that once it's all welded together.14:02
Scary_GuyIt'll be on a moving track so he can pull it out and work on it if/when needed.  Not sure if it'll get to that point though just because of the added weight.  He's still mulling it over.14:03
jrwrenthats true.14:21
jrwrenthe blue light is proven to lower the bodies melatonin release14:21
jrwrenNO LIGHTS ALLOWED14:21
jrwrensystemd capsules feature looks interesting.16:31
