[17:16] https://riscv.org/news/2024/06/worlds-first-risc-v-laptop-gets-a-massive-upgrade-and-equips-with-ubuntu/ [17:17] Someone could purchase this, but they'd be SOL if they need to easily re-install. [17:43] mneptok: Do you have any details on what firmware is on that device? If it doesn't have any type of standard boot method, an installer ISO won't be useful anyway [17:46] From my understanding the open architecture of RISC-V may require specialized installers per platform. At least until a reference platform is created. But it seems wise for Canonical to at least provide public ISO images for users of partner hardware that have pre-installation. [17:46] Caveat: I'm as useful when discussing RISC-V platform implementation as a whistle on a plow. [17:51] My guess is it would most likely be a pre-installed image similar to a Raspberry Pi, but I'm purely speculating here. [17:53] Please join me behind the "I'm Not Quite Sure If I'm Making Sense Here" divider. [19:08] https://code.launchpad.net/~liushuyu-011/ubuntu/+source/vectorscan/+git/vectorscan/+merge/467842 minor fix [19:13] Eickmeyer, mneptok: RISC-V devices are similar to RPi devices, where different devices will require a different board configurations (like where can the kernel find the peripherals/what are the valid MMIO address spaces etc). [19:13] Although, there are some efforts of getting UEFI/ACPI standardized in RISC-V ecosystem, but to my knowledge, most implementations are emulated through U-Boot (somewhat similar to the EBBR [Embedded Base Boot Requirements] thing in the ARM world) [19:46] @pilot out === ChanServ changed the topic of #ubuntu-devel to: Archive: open | Devel of Ubuntu (not support) | Build failures: http://qa.ubuntuwire.com/ftbfs/ | #ubuntu for support and discussion of Focal-Noble | Patch Pilots: N/A [22:43] I need moderation again for u-d-a@ please [22:56] rbasak: oops, disregard my email to you just now, I apparently was too quick in assuming a ballot didn't show up [23:03] arraybolt3: no, it was entirely my fault.
