IrcsomeBot<myfenris> @RikMills what are the remaining items/todos for plasma6 ?the other 3rd party apps ?07:46
IrcsomeBot<myfenris> anything i can help ?07:52
IrcsomeBot<myfenris> anything i can help/assist ?07:53
IrcsomeBot<RikMills> Need to go through everything again and make some fresh notes. then can target what is left to do08:07

mamarleyI installed the Plasma 6 build from kubuntu-ninjas on one of my PCs too and I have a problem with "kactivitymanagerd" crashing repeatedly whenever I do almost anything.  myfenris, have you seen anything like that?10:12
IrcsomeBot<myfenris> Where @ how u see the crashed ? (re @IrcsomeBot: <mamarley> I installed the Plasma 6 build from kubuntu-ninjas on one of my PCs too and I have a problem with "kactivitymanagerd" crashing repeatedly whenever I do almost anything.  myfenris, have you seen anything like that?)10:27
mamarleyIt repeatedly pops up notification messages to that effect in the normal place (the bottom right corner of the screen in my case).10:28
IrcsomeBot<myfenris> Owh, then it don't happened to me so far (re @IrcsomeBot: <mamarley> It repeatedly pops up notification messages to that effect in the normal place (the bottom right corner of the screen in my case).)10:29
mamarleyHmm…10:29
IrcsomeBot<myfenris> I'm outside now,  let me double check later when I'm 🏡10:30
mamarleyI tried deleting most of the KDE konfiguration and kache files hoping that it might just be something carrying over from Plasma 5 causing it, but that just made the problem worse, with Plasma also crashing whenever kactivitymanagerd crashes.10:30
mamarleyMaybe I should try a fresh user account.10:31
mamarleyIt's worth noting that I'm also using an unusual method of starting KDE ("dbus-run-session startplasma-wayland" from a VT rather than sddm or whatever), so that may also have something to do with it.10:32
IrcsomeBot<myfenris> I did this after installing 6.1.0 .. thinking almost the same about that time I facing black screen after login (re @IrcsomeBot: <mamarley> I tried deleting most of the KDE konfiguration and kache files hoping that it might just be something carrying over from Plasma 5 causing it, but that just made the problem worse, with Plasma also crashing whenever kactivitymanagerd crashes.)10:34
IrcsomeBot<myfenris> Owh .. didn't know about that as I login either from gdm3 @ sddm (re @IrcsomeBot: <mamarley> It's worth noting that I'm also using an unusual method of starting KDE ("dbus-run-session startplasma-wayland" from a VT rather than sddm or whatever), so that may also have something to do with it.)10:35
mamarleyIt also crashes the same way with a fresh user account and with X rather than Wayland.10:40
IrcsomeBot<sgmoore> morning11:08
BluesKajHi all11:22
IrcsomeBot<myfenris> lucky not for me .. so far haven't faced any crashes yet (re @IrcsomeBot: <mamarley> It also crashes the same way with a fresh user account and with X rather than Wayland.)12:46

RikMillssanta_: https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-devel/2024-July/043056.html14:51
santa_hi everyone14:52
IrcsomeBot<sgmoore> hi14:52
santa_RikMills: yep, there's exactly the workarounding I applied14:52
santa_atm everything is fine again in my servers14:53
santa_sgmoore: I'm sorry to hear about your accident, I hope you are a bit better today14:53
IrcsomeBot<sgmoore> doing ok, working with one arm is harder than I thought, but I am managing. Did we have a list of stuff that needs to go into debian?14:55
santa_wip list, but yes14:56
santa_let me find the link again...14:56
IrcsomeBot<sgmoore> thanks, sorry14:56
santa_https://git.launchpad.net/~kubuntu-packagers/kubuntu-packaging/+git/fw6_working_notes/tree/fw_6.4_ubuntu_packaging_working_notes.txt14:57
santa_I was expecting last week to have a chat with you all about it, last week, but I had to deal with the LXD drama14:58
santa_the co-installability things of the fw5 packages are a bit questionable15:00
santa_however purpose has wrong Breaks/replaces in the package from debian, and they must be dropped15:01
IrcsomeBot<sgmoore> ok15:01
santa_for kglobalaccel and qqc2-desktop-style we probably need a better solution15:01
santa_nothing questionable in the updated B-D's15:02
RikMillssanta_: debian doesn't need the qqc2-desktop-style fix as the have 5.115 without those translations15:02
RikMillsthey were new in 5.11615:03
santa_ok15:03
santa_the autotests at build time probably should be disabled, but the current debian people might argue against it, so feel free to skip if you feel that's the right path to go15:04
santa_nothing questionable afaics regarding the new binary package, they will have to include those for fw 6.415:05
santa_same thing for installed files15:05
santa_the symbols files section is purely informational15:05
santa_then we have the autopkgtest problems15:06
santa_those need to be fixed and they are not difficult to fix15:06
santa_those = acc15:06
santa_then we have a few packages - still - with the testsuite autopkgtest, that's bad practice and afaik autpkgtests are not meant for that15:08
santa_furthermore, we had complaints in ubuntu about it, see one of the links there15:08
santa_there's also a number of packages without acc tests, maybe at some point I coul add some of those, if I do, they would be reusable for the debian packaging15:09
santa_then we have a bunch of things that are imo a clear violation of debian policy 8.3, which is unfortunately a very common bad practice in the debian qt/kde team15:11
RikMillssanta_: debian have made libkf5globalaccel-bin a dummy package that depends on the qt6 kglobalacceld15:11
RikMillsno idea if kf5 apps will work with the qt6 kglobalacceld15:11
santa_RikMills: that seems also a bit questionable to me :)15:11
santa_regarding the deb policy 8.3 violations, each and every single fix will need NEW15:12
santa_and that perhaps will encourage them to not fix them15:12
santa_one example of how evil the NEW queue is in Debian15:13
santa_and finally there's a "No use of ${DEB_HOST_MULTIARCH}" section15:13
RikMills"oh new files! lets just shove them in an existing package t avoid the new queue"15:14
santa_exactly15:14
santa_regarding the "No use of ${DEB_HOST_MULTIARCH}" that's a minor thing but maybe nice to have at some point15:15
IrcsomeBot<RikMills> you mane new sources as well? (re @sgmoore: doing ok, working with one arm is harder than I thought, but I am managing. Did we have a list of stuff that needs to go into debian?)15:16
IrcsomeBot<RikMills> you mean new sources as well? (re @sgmoore: doing ok, working with one arm is harder than I thought, but I am managing. Did we have a list of stuff that needs to go into debian?)15:16
RikMillssanta_: sorry. carry on. was just asking before I forget15:17
santa_I'm almost done15:18
santa_just a couple of comments15:18
santa_@ my tritemio servers I can build atm only packages against ubuntu chroots15:19
santa_however, I'm considering at some point adding to that infra the ability to build packages in debian chroots15:20
santa_more or less like debian's buildds would do 15:20
santa_so...15:20
santa_while I don't have that feature available maybe one thing I could to is build the debian packages from debian's git inside an ubuntu chroot15:21
santa_maybe with -c0 to avoid the symbols failures15:21
santa_this could give us a general picture of the status of things @ debian15:22
RikMillsthat could be useful15:22
santa_i.e. let's say fo fix the acc tests in debian, we could verify by doing a test rebuild and check in the status pages if everything was indeed fixed15:23
santa_s/fo/you/15:34
IrcsomeBot<sgmoore> Yes, I will work on new sources too. Albeit slow. (re @RikMills: you mean new sources as well?)16:00
mamarleyAgainst my better instincts I installed the Plasma 6.1.2 build on a couple of other systems and I have mostly positive results.  There were quite a few duplicate files that I had to force-install to overwrite, but after it installed, Plasma started correctly.16:20
mamarleyI've had a couple of Plasma crashes and the framerate can be a bit janky at times on Intel (it seems fine on AMD), but those obviously aren't packaging issues.16:20
RikMillsmamarley: are you able to list the debs with duplicate files?16:43
RikMills6.1.3 is out tomorrow \o/16:44
mamarleyRikMills: Not at the moment. but I'm planning to upgrade another system in a bit and I can capture that data then.17:12
RikMillsmamarley: btw, are you adding ppa:kubuntu-ppa/experimental first?17:13
mamarleyI added experimental and ninjas-plasma at the same time.17:14
RikMillsok, good17:14
mamarleyRikMills: It is plasma-workspace-data, plasma-desktoptheme, kwayland5-data, and kwayland-data.18:22
RikMillsmamarley: thanks!18:23
mamarleyNo problem.18:24
mparilloHe's dead Jim. https://mail.kde.org/pipermail/kde-devel/2024-July/002870.html kio-gdrive will be removed from KDE Gear master/24.08 in a few days21:48
RikMillsit was a nice idea, but has been nothing but trouble21:49
RikMillsoh for build reasons21:50
mparilloIt worked well for me for a while, but the first time Google played the shell game was a disappointment, then I gave up trying a few years ago.21:52
mparilloNow I can see why the developers have lost motivation to keep it buildable if it is not usable.21:53
