StephaneHello everyone!20:45
StephaneIf there is anyone from the Kubuntu dev team here, I was wondering if there were any plans on creating an immutable Kubuntu distribution based on Ubuntu Core?20:45
StephaneI've been reading a lot about these types of distros and they seem to provide a lot of great advantages over classic package based distributions.20:45
bpromptStephane: have  you checked ##kubuntu-devel or ##kubuntu-council channels yet?20:46
bpromptwell20:47
bpromptStephane: have  you checked #kubuntu-devel or #kubuntu-council channels yet?20:47
StephaneNo I haven't. I'll check them right away.20:47
Mibixcan someone please help me fix my login screen21:51
MibixI added another gpu to my server and now the login screen is always in a super low resolution my monitor cant even see21:51
Mibixlet me try one more restart21:53
Mibixnerp22:01
sarnoldyarp22:03
Mibixi can not fix this login screen :(22:04
Mibixtried xrandr and shut off the unused vga output22:05
Mibixtried copying settings to sddm22:05
Mibixany idea sarnold?22:08
sarnoldMibix: not really :( xrandr always felt like a thing to done once you're logged in, and beforel ogging in you'd need to use xorg.conf snippets to tell the monitors what to do, but I've never put effort into this, I just put up with garbage-looking screens before logging in22:09
Mibixheh i cant even see the login screen is the issue22:10
sarnoldoh, even the login screen itself is busted? ouch.22:10
Mibixonce i login everything is fine22:10
Mibixbut the login screen is displaying at too low of a resolution for my monitor22:11
sarnoldMibix: so, if it were my problem to solve, I'd try the Xorg -configure option to generate a configuration for the system https://www.x.org/releases/current/doc/man/man1/Xorg.1.xhtml  -- save aside just the monitor section https://www.x.org/releases/current/doc/man/man5/xorg.conf.5.xhtml#heading12 in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/22:14
sarnoldMibix: .. and then edit that monitor section to select the mode you want22:14
Mibixthat doesnt even work https://imgur.com/a/RScyPS422:17
Mibixthere is nothing in that folder either22:18
sarnoldyou can't run it from a terminal while running x22:18
sarnolddrop to the console and run it there22:18
sarnoldyou might even have to exit the x entirely, it's been ages since i've used it22:19
Mibixnot sure how to do that lol22:19
sarnoldcontrol alt f3 or something like that probably does the trick22:19
Mibixstill same error, X already running22:21
bpromptMibix: pardon my meddling, have you checked in the System Settings > Login Screen (SDDM) section yet?    maybe either changing a theme or just doing a Sync?22:22
bpromptassuming that's the screen you're referring to22:22
Mibixi did try that already22:23
bpromptMibix: what do you mean by the login screen btw, the part where you enter user/password and session type?22:24
Mibixcorrect22:24
bpromptMibix: by new gpu, you mean, a new videocard to a pci-E slot?22:25
Mibixyes22:26
Mibixi have a nvidia 710 and now a nvidia 1050 ti22:26
Mibixmonitor is attached to 71022:26
bpromptMibix: so  you have two videocards hmmm and SDDM I assume is using the 1050ti22:27
Mibixno i dont think it works on either gpu22:29
bpromptwb Mibix, sorry was kinda busy doing stuff23:00
bpromptMibix: all I can think of, is the SDDM configuration at /etc/sddm23:00
bpromptMibix: do you get the same thing in a liveUSB session?23:01
Mibixhmm havent tried that23:01
bpromptMibix: you can also give a shot to reinstalling SDDM itself, that way the script reruns and reprobes hardware23:08
bpromptMibix: it may be worth a shot looking at your scripts under /usr/share/sddm/scripts23:11
Mibixthe files in the etc/sddm folder don't seem to have any video settings23:20
Mibixnot sure what to look for in these scripts23:20
Mibixtrying to convert my old VM and passthrough this new GPU to see if all this is even worth it haha23:21
oerheksoh you never mentioned VM23:22
oerhekshahahaha23:22
Mibixno this kubuntu install is not a VM23:42
Mibixim hosting a windows vm on it23:42
Mibixdoesnt really have anything to do with my issue, heh23:43
Mibixbesides me adding another GPU :D23:43
bpromptMibix: maybe reinstalling sddm?23:43
Mibixsounds dangerous haha23:44
