[05:49] hello friends, do we need the ubuntu pro upgrade for good security or who needs this ? === hasan is now known as Guest25 [11:28] Hi all [11:39] I think the only reason for the Ubuntu pro upgrade is if you want security patches for older versions. If you keep current (LTS on Kubuntu is three years), you should not need Ubuntu Pro. [13:01] Hi folks, the Kubuntu download page is missing a checksum for 24.04.1, it only has one for 24.04 [13:02] https://kubuntu.org/alternative-downloads/ [13:18] Pro also provides security updates for packages that are outside of main. [13:43] I just updated the Alternative Downloads in Word Press. It usually takes an hour or two to propagate the changes. [14:13] Hey there. Would the last post on this page (the one by Ian D) be a reasonable way to check root's mail without having to install or use an MTA or run the mail through your mail client? https://askubuntu.com/questions/2261/how-are-administrators-supposed-to-read-roots-mail === punit is now known as punit_arya [16:10] Hi guys. Just upgraded from 22.04.4 to 24.04.1,but i run into some issues. [16:11] 1. After rebooting my system grub is freezing and i need to reboot again [16:12] I managed to get Rstudio to be installed... I realized why gets on the posit website is the persistent April 2024 release... I got the September 2024 release be it would perfectly with KDE Wayland... shooooshh (re @RikMills: and https://www.reddit.com/r/RStudio/comments/1cbv0jj/rstudio_fails_to_run_on_ubuntu_2404/) [16:15] I was able to select rescue mode after a few attempts. I did perform apt update;apt upgrade;apt --fix-broken install and then rebooted [16:19] After rebooting i left the grub countdown to finish and i was able to reach the graphic login screen. And now the 2nd issue appeared. [16:19] I wasnt able to login into kde, because there was no kde/plasma session. I was presented with a xfce login screen. [16:19] I run again the previous apt commands, rebooted and a blue login screen appeared, again with no session. I quickly installed xfce4 to be able to login into de/wm. [16:21] After rebooting i left the grub countdown to finish and i was able to reach the graphic login screen. And now the 2nd issue appeared. [16:21] I wasnt able to login into kde, because there was no kde/plasma session. I was presented with a xfce login screen. [16:21] I run again the previous apt commands, rebooted and a blue login screen appeared displaying a giant software keyboard, again with no session. I quickly installed xfce4 to be able to login into de/wm. [16:23] So, my questions are these: [16:23] 1. What can i do to prevent grub to freeze ? [16:23] 2. What can i do to be able to use kde/plasma again? Should i do a fresh install? === miguel is now known as miguel_ [22:29] Is there a workaround to get the Kubuntu 24.04.1 installer to use a luks2 partition? Calamares crashes on me everytime with a Segmentation Fault. [22:36] Probably not the via the installer, but you can do a server install (with the text-based installer) and then do `apt-get install task-kde-desktop` as a last-resort work-around. Might have to fiddle with networking config as well. [22:36] moffa: ^^ [22:38] great, I'll try that
