[00:00] a72138a: not sure how we can help, but mind you that's offtopic in this channel though [00:01] Apologies about that, maybe a better question is to ask what server/channels are relevant to receiving help with phone communication issues? Do you happen to know of any? === y0sh- is now known as y0sh_ [00:03] a72138a: hmmmm if it's a matter of hardware or software, there are some, in your case, looks hmmm pardon my candor, looks odd and Phishy [00:22] bprompt as mentioned up for video chats, being transparent about account purposes, sad that we live in a world where people have become so paranoid that they don't feel comfortable sharing a text message with a stranger to help them out in a difficult situation. [00:23] maybe this is cause for concern? [00:26] a72138a: nope, but anyone trying to assess your plight, would like to validate it first, that said hmmm, not sure many channels here deal with that, mainly support, I never assumed you were lying, however you may want to revise the pitch, is too flaky [00:27] Ummm why not just call your phone provider? [00:27] I mean if your phone was stolen, get a new one, your provider will give you new sim with same number, etc, then you can do your verification bs. [00:28] True, I haven't found a good serv/channel on any of the public irc directories for this quite yet.  enigma9o7 If that was a good solution I would do that, currently without a phone provider. [00:29] Then who cares? [00:29] If the phone that was stolen didn't even have a working SIM in it, how does it matter? [00:29] enigma9o7 phone being stolen is irrelevant, sharing about that for transparency [00:29] Contact your insruance provider if you have such a thing to get reimburse mint, contact the police to report it stolen, etc. [00:30] you make a good point in that may create some confusion, lead to non useful suggestions. I suppose it's a double edged sword like many similar approaches. [00:30] So what is it you actually want? [00:31] I need help with receiving phone verifications so I can access social media services, email services & relevant email services as well as to communicate with others via phone/sms. [00:32] Uh so go buy a phone. [00:32] However I was asked to discontinue communications about this on Libera chat as it's off topic so I would like to stop discussing this now. If someone would like to help you are welcome to message me especially if you know of a more relevant serv/channel. [00:32] Is there some reason that solution isn't valid [00:32] a72138a: but you don't have a phone now? you want to do it over the computer? [00:33] If these verifications aren't tied to a phone number from the sim card that was stolen, you can just start fresh, so really don't need anyone's help but your own. [00:33] If you're in the US, walmart has phones for like $50. [00:33] plus every other service provider has free phones if you sign up with them [00:33] so nothiing to do with asking other people [00:34] a72138a: maybe you'd want to join us at #ubuntu-offtopic :) [00:34] True, I understand where you are coming from. I am trying to avoid asking people directly for $ in order to get a working cellphone as I found that super time inefficient every time I"ve done that, also dangerous due to some people's reactions. [00:35] Anyways as mentioned above feel free to refer to my last response & have a good rest of your days everyone. [00:36] *last prev response [00:40] a72138a: well, nothing wrong with you asking something like that to someone, but your pitch is lacking finesse =), folks will respond differently if your pitch were different, is all, the overreactions will occur when the worded material is too blunt or direct for that type of content [00:40] a72138a: however feel free to join us at #ubuntu-offtopic :) [00:58] this guy needs to layoff the crackpipe, nothing he says makes sense. if you're poor, they give you free cellphones, there's like dudes with tables and tents everywhere trying to get you to take one [00:58] they even come door-to-door sometimes === antonispgs3 is now known as antonispgs === Guest37 is now known as xiaohs [02:20] Hi, I don'd find this snap https://snapcraft.io/netbird [02:20] ~$ snap set netbird service-run-arguments="--log-level debug" [02:20] Fehler: Snap "netbird" nicht gefunden [02:22] I need to modify the command because it is beta? I put the easy steps myself, but there are some other steps that I don't know what is best to choose. [08:38] sorry for the repetition but I was on my smartphone and then I didn't understand why the user no longer appears, maybe the connection dropped [08:39] just ask your quedtion [09:09] ravage i just need help to choose the right selection to do through the installation on ubuntu 24.04.1 [09:09] if you do not know what to choose use the defaults [09:10] if this is the only OS you use choose entire disk on partitioning [09:12] ravage the one where it says to choose between basic installation with only basic apps or a few utilities or the other option that says to install additional office software and I don't remember what else, I don't know what is better to put also because I didn't understand what are the applications, utilities and additional things that will be [09:12] installed because they are not listed [09:20] https://canonical.com/blog/worlds-first-risc-v-laptop-gets-a-massive-upgrade-and-equips-with-ubuntu [09:35] Heya everyone :D. I'm a fairly new user of ubuntu. And i'm just trying to wrap my head around around extra hard drives on my system. [09:35] I'm trying to play some MP3s from another harddrive and getting very weird results. Some applications can play them, other no chance. [09:35] I get an error message on VLC "Your input can't be opened: [09:35] VLC is unable to open the MRL 'admin:///media..." [09:35] Would someone be available for me to ask some questions just so i can wrap my head around hard drives and system privelages? [09:39] If anyone wants to help that would be good, when i open folders in the files app it asks for my root password. Is this normal everytime i log in? [09:39] Is there a preferred file system that ubuntu likes more than others? (i know it dosn't like NTFS, so if i had an NTFS hard drive what would be the best file system to use?) [09:39] Why can't i play MP3s off of my hard drive? Does it have to do with rwxrwxrwx 777 permissions? Or do i have to change permissions for applications trying to access the hard drive? No grub menu at startup and cannot enter BIOS. any idea? [19:24] beelink: try hitting escape to bring up the grub menu. [19:24] at boot, that is [19:25] in case you enabled fastboot and that prevents you from entering the bios, check your mainboard / laptop manual, it should describe how to regain access to the bios. [19:27] I dont think I enabled fastboot. prevıously I was able to see grub menu and enter BIOS. [19:30] tomreyn: I'll try escape button [19:30] it may have been enabled by the manufacturer. you should normally be able to access the bios using the documented access key (usually "Del" or some function key, such as F2, F8, F9 or F11) [19:30] it = fastboot [19:30] del did not work [19:30] and you'd only be able to access bios this way after a failed boot [19:31] but it really matters on your hardware, check the manual [19:31] err depends on [19:35] tomreyn: ESC did not work. [19:35] do you have any idea why I got no GRUB menu [19:42] beelink: are you booting in bios or uefi mode, do you know? [19:44] beelink: when booting in bios mode, grub menu would show if you hold down the shift key. when booting in uefi mode, the grub menu will show when you hit escape during boot. you must time it correctly. failing to boot properly may bring up the boot menu automatically on next boot. [19:44] the *grub* menu, not the *boot* menu, i mean [19:53] tomreyn: I think I am in uefi mode. I can run efibootmgr. https://bpa.st/IIJNG [19:56] 1 second timeout too short to show menu? [19:56] beelink: yes, you are booting in uefi mode. you need to hit escape at the right time during boot to bring up the grub boot menu. since you can boot properly oyu can just change grub to default to show its menu [19:58] see https://askubuntu.com/a/16049 [19:58] I see but nothing comes to screen. it's all black during boot up [19:59] the grub menu is hidden by default. you can make it be shown, as explained on the link above [20:00] info -f grub -n 'Simple configuration' also explains how. [20:02] i'll be back later, good luck! if none of this works, better check your computer /mainboard manual on which hotkey to press to enter the bios/efi setup utility.
