[00:13] sgmoore RikMills arraybolt3 there was some discussion about how annoying the upgrade indicator is. Aaron did a great job dressing up the stock experience so users could "kick the can down the road" a lot easier, and people like it. Maybe it's time to upstream? https://i.imgur.com/DvynjIN.png [01:20] mmikowski, arraybolt3: I would like to have been a part of that discussion since I'm the maintainer of that package. That said, an SRU is near impossible for that since that would introduce a new feature, which is a big no-no. It could go into 25.04, but no sooner. [01:22] Besides, what's so hard about clicking the "x" on the notification? 🤔 [01:22] (that's a non-sequitur, don't worry about that question) [01:24] I also don't even know if it works under Plasma 6 as I haven't had time to test it. 😞 [02:18] Hey Eickmeyer, well this isn't upstreamed. I do know customers really appreciate it. If you look into #kubuntu, you will see people using elaborate work-arounds to escape the upgrade nag. This provides that in a pretty slick presentation. [02:19] With no work. I brought it up because I thought it might be a good thing to upstream, or at least components of it. [02:32] mmikowski: Right, and I'm not saying no, the Stable Release Update guidelines are saying no. [03:15] Eickmeyer Understood. So maybe next LTS, or 25.04 for folks with notifications for all release upgrades. [03:17] Surpringly difficult as I have heard complaints. (re @IrcsomeBot: Besides, what's so hard about clicking the "x" on the notification? 🤔) [03:18] For what it's worth, I didn't write the thing, I just patched it to work with our system. Neon folks wrote it. [03:19] But yeah, 25.04 would be the soonest [03:28] Eickmeyer sgmoore There were some very vocal and emphatic complaints. After this dialog was added, those that had complained were mollified, and we didn't see any additional complaints. [03:30] mmikowski: Understood, but stable releases are just that: stable. What you'd be doing is adding a new feature, and 25.04 is the soonest new features can be added to any new components as everything is feature frozen for anything 24.10 and older. That's the concept behind Feature Freezes: Stability. [03:31] The new dialog would be fine for 25.04, but it would have to be in the form of a patch. [03:31] Only because it's not our code, but belongs further upstream with Neon. [03:32] Eickmeyer: I was just saying people responded well to the dialog and offering to help upstream for you or others who might want it. I'm certainly not pushing for an SRU. I just added the color about how people responded to illustrated the desirability of such a feature. [03:38] Eickmeyer: mmikowski If it is an issue that is degrading user experiance, then maybe there might be some leeway negotiated [03:39] Would do no harm to make some enquiries [03:39] And/or put a case together [03:39] Hi RikMills :) [03:40] Hi, and morning. Woke up and could not get back to sleep. So seeing if I can find anything useful to do [03:40] haha [03:40] Well, I need to go to bed (it's almost midnight here, again). [03:42] Yeah, staying up past that is a bad habit to get into [03:43] arraybolt3 implemented the hooks and the dialog, although I'm certain any of us could pick it up. So it's just a question of it or when you'd like to upstream. I do think its a much nicer experience, and response has been all positive. Notice this implementation does link to browser doc. [03:44] https://imgur.com/DvynjIN ok Rik, I'll catch you and Erich later. Good to see you both. [03:44] mmikowski: you too. appreciate you being here and your input :) [03:45] thanks RikMills. ttys! [12:03] Hi all [14:11] @sgmoore turns out kio-fuse can build for Qt6. cmakelist.txt does a bad job of showing that though [14:11] so https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kio-fuse/5.1.0-0ubuntu5 [14:12] Ah ok. Going in for surgery in a couple hours. [14:13] Oh, I thought that was done. Sorry to bother you. Hoping it goes well. (re @sgmoore: Ah ok. Going in for surgery in a couple hours.) [14:14] No worries, keeps changing. I probably forgot to update. [14:28] sgmoore good luck with surgery. I will meet you soon in the Hague. Dana will be there too! [14:30] I won't be there. It took a month of repacking post op for the last surgery, I can't do it by myself. [14:35] Argh! Scarlett! [14:36] sgmoore well if there is anything we can do, lemme know. [14:36] kk, back to production. ttys! [14:38] Thank you. Yeah not to happy with this whole ordeal. Never had a broken bone before, seems like I am having an unusual amount of complications.
