xu-help15wHi everyone, wonder if anyone can help? Have just upgraded from 22.04 LTS to 24.04 LTS. Can no longer find the xfce4-volumed package, so volume control doesn't work. Has it been removed? Thanks.08:30

xu-irc72wI tried to find information by didn't answer on my question: does xubuntu compatible with wayland ?08:48

cousteauHi!  New laptop, and haven't done a Xubuntu install since like 6 years ago.  What's the usual procedure and what do I need? 12:13
cousteauAre there Xubuntu images specifically for USB drives?  (This thing doesn't have a CD tray) 12:14
cousteauOr do I just burn the ISO to a USB drive and boot from there? 12:15
cousteau(or, do you have a link to instructions for laptop installs?) 12:16
cousteau...oh, the images are supposed to be USB images 12:18
cousteau_I guess I'll need a *blank* USB with 4? 8? GB, and another Linux machine to "burn" it, correct?  Or is there a way to use my regular pendrive without wiping it? 12:55
fmachadohey all, not sure where to report this but the md5sum from the .ISO (24.04) provided by the German' mirror uni-kl.de does not match with the one informed in the file pub/linux/ubuntu-dvd/xubuntu/releases/24.04/release/SHA256SUMS16:52
fmachadoOh, I found the mailing list specific for mirrors. I will post there. :)16:56
cousteaufmachado: the one you computed, or the one the German site reports? 17:12
cousteau(anyway, duly noted; I'll check the sum after downloading) 17:13
fmachadocousteau the one computed locally. I'm downloading from another mirror to check the output of 'shasum -a 256' (not md5sum as I wrote).17:21
fmachadoAs I tried from different machines with the same wrong checksum, I came here... maybe there is smth wrong here, I dunno...17:22
cousteauOK, because that might be due to a corrupted download or a corrupted hosted version.  If the server reported a different hash it might be an older version (24.04.0 vs 24.04.1 or similar). 17:23
cousteauAlso, isn't the command sha256sum?  I suppose shasum -a 256 does the same, but just in case. 17:27
cousteau(yeah, seems to do the same) 17:33
cousteauSpeaking of mirrors, the French mirror doesn't work. 17:35
tomreyn$ sha256sum -c SHA256SUMS --ignore-missing17:40
tomreynxubuntu-24.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso: OK17:40
tomreynno issue here with http://ftp.uni-kl.de/pub/linux/ubuntu-dvd/xubuntu/releases/24.04/release/xubuntu-24.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso and SHA256SUMS17:41
cousteauI just got the Torrent version and the sha256sum works fine (c333806...) 17:42
tomreynbut then fmachado didn't really tell us which file they were downloading17:42
cousteauDamn, I lost my pendrive :'(17:44
cousteaunvm, found it. (Who was the idiot who put it here? Probably me...) 17:45
cousteauOK, so the ISO image is 4.10 GB (4.10×10^9 bytes) and thus will probably not fit in a 4 GB USB drive. 17:47
cousteauMy pendrive is 30 GB though (weird number; thought they were usually made in powers of 2 for marketing reasons mostly) so it should fit.  But I'd rather not wipe it.  I have stuff in there. 17:51
cousteau(yes, 30.75 decimal GB, or 28.7 GiB.  It's not 30 GiB being advertised as the technically correct "32 GB".  Weird number, huh?) 17:52
cousteauHuh, it DOES say "32 GB" on the drive label. 17:53

cousteaudammit, I looked for pendrives on the local store and all they have are gigantic 64 or 256 GB drives18:24
cousteaufor like 10-15 €18:24
cousteauI want a small useless pendrive, dammit!18:24
cousteauYo, my USB thumb drive is already formatted in FAT32.  Maybe I can just install the Xubuntu installer there using UNetbootin and not even need to delete the files or format the thing at all?21:06
cousteau(just backup everything just in case, I guess)21:07
