[14:58] Hey all! there is an upstream kernel fix https://github.com/torvalds/linux/commit/7f3287db654395f9c5ddd246325ff7889f550286 that is being backported to longterm releases now. How can I figure out if and when I can find this fix in Ubuntu 24? [14:58] -ubottu:#ubuntu-kernel- Commit 7f3287d in torvalds/linux "netfilter: nft_socket: make cgroupsv2 matching work with namespaces" [16:32] nadia: looks like stable backports of the fix landed with v6.10.12 and v6.6.53, which are the branches that currently feed upstream stable updates for noble. We prepare these updates for noble with a 4 week delay to upstream, so that means it would be submitted as a PR around Oct 28th. Depending on the (tentative) schedule of the next SRU cycles after the current one (see [16:32] https://kernel.ubuntu.com/), a noble kernel including the fix would be available towards the end of November at the earliest, potentially later. [16:45] Thanks a lot for the info! Is there a worst-case deadline? [16:53] Hard to say with the schedule not being set in stone yet. Absolute worst case would be early next year. [18:28] Hi all. There is a particular patch which was landed in the master-next branch for Noble recently. I'm wondering how long it will take for this patch to make it into a released Ubuntu kernel package. [18:28] What is the typical cadence for things to make it from master-next to being released? [18:29] umanwizard: You can see the kernel release cycles here : https://kernel.ubuntu.com/ [18:29] thibf: Thanks [18:32] So, it will only go to the "noble-updates" channel, not the "noble" channel, is this true? Sorry if it's a basic question; I'm not an expert Ubuntu user (I'm just helping one of our customers fix/debug something). [18:37] umanwizard: Indeed, you can see all generic kernel here : https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux with their associated destination [18:40] Got it, thanks for the help. [19:03] BTW (unrelated to the above): the kernel team wiki page (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam) has a broken link to a blog: http://voices.canonical.com/kernelteam/
