guruprasad | Hi Mc, I apologize for the late reply. | 06:36 |
---|---|---|
guruprasad | We were seeing some abusive clients requesting this repository too many times and degrading the Launchpad git hosting service itself. | 06:37 |
guruprasad | And that is why we had suspended the import. | 06:37 |
Mc | what is "abusive" in that context and how can I avoid it ? | 07:02 |
Mc | (I mentioned in August that it was often buggy and taking more than an hour instead of the "normal" 4 minutes pull) | 07:04 |
Mc | I did request it manually like ~ 5 times over a few days in the year (at the beginning with the expectation that the pull would take 4 minutes, then with no hope for it being fast) when I was working on debian/config folder and the nest stuff in the recipe, I doubt many others do | 07:07 |
Mc | (but every time it should only have pulled max 2-3 commits, not an hour of bandwith) | 07:10 |
guruprasad | Mc, it had nothing to do with the import itself or the repository. Just that there were too many requests coming to it from some abusive clients, which I don't think were related to you. | 07:28 |
guruprasad | I will unsuspend the import now. | 07:28 |
Mc | ah, people cloning with launchpad as a source ? | 07:29 |
guruprasad | Yes. Too many random requests to a few repositories, of which this was one, unfortunately. | 07:29 |
guruprasad | Mc, I have unsuspended the import and it should run soon. | 07:29 |
Mc | Thanks ! Inkscape 1.4 should be available soon on the ppa then :D | 07:30 |
RikMills | bos03 is almost all 'cleaning'. an issue? | 08:38 |
guruprasad | RikMills, looks to be the case. We have heard reports about this internally too. | 09:03 |
guruprasad | Will check what is happpening and post an update here soon | 09:04 |
guruprasad | RikMills, looks like cloud issues are causing this :( | 09:26 |
RikMills | guruprasad: fair enough. thanks for looking | 09:28 |
cjwatson | guruprasad: Would the haproxy connlimit stuff in lp-git/bundle.yaml be an alternative solution to that kind of thing? We only ever used it for ubuntu-cve-tracker before, but it would probably be possible to extend it. | 09:54 |
guruprasad | cjwatson, I didn't know that we had something like that already, but, yes, we are looking at rate limiting requests to all the frontends including git. These days there are too many bots that don't respect robots.txt, don't use a unique bot name and use a large number different subnets (all owned by the same few suspects) | 09:59 |
guruprasad | I was looking at the connlimit configuration in haproxy and mod-evasive for apache2. | 10:00 |
guruprasad | And now that I see the existing lp-git connlimit configuration, it does look like what I was researching. | 10:01 |
cjwatson | You'd have to figure out how to wedge what you want through the charm, but yeah. | 10:04 |
cjwatson | It only deals with HTTPS, but usually that was most of the problem ... | 10:04 |
clinton-fung | Hi folks. bos03 builders should be coming back now; sorry for any inconvenience | 14:38 |
