cpaelzercan anyone lead the MIR meeting today instead of me or should I double-act to the extend possible?14:29
cpaelzerok, trying ...14:31
sarnolddo we have enough people to bother?14:32
cpaelzerlet us see14:32

sarnoldooo fancy14:35
cpaelzerkernel in there for realtime which they usually handle themselve14:37
cpaelzerwe have no representative of them here14:38
cpaelzerlet me raise it in the kernel channel to be sure14:38
sarnoldthere's scores of supported kernels, i'm surprised this doesn't come up more often14:38
cpaelzerI assume this is due to realtime formerly being a thing of its own14:41
cpaelzerbut now all in the kernel, so they likely changed from a binary to a meta package or such14:41
cpaelzerand that could be new, and thereby start in universe14:41
cpaelzer#topic New MIRs14:41
sarnoldI think it's brand new :)14:41

-ubottu:#ubuntu-meeting- Issue 69 in canonical/ubuntu-mir "Do we benefit from having the dev binary packages promoted?" [Open]14:46
cpaelzerwhere slyon gladly carried our discussion that -dev exclusion should still be a per-case thing14:46
cpaelzerno action either AFAICS14:46
cpaelzer#topic MIR related Security Review Queue14:46
cpaelzerMission: Check on progress, do deadlines seem doable?14:46

cpaelzersarnold: should https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openscap/+bug/1877696 get off of that list14:48
-ubottu:#ubuntu-meeting- Launchpad bug 1877696 in openscap (Ubuntu) "[MIR] openscap" [Undecided, Incomplete]14:48
cpaelzerit is from & to security14:48
cpaelzerand oval / openscap no more seems to be the future14:48
cpaelzeris it time to eliminate it from the board and reject the launchpad case?14:48
sarnoldcpaelzer: heh, I think oval was given a last-second reprieve, I believe the US Navy something or other is taking it over14:48
cpaelzeroh is it14:48
cpaelzerI'm curious to learn about that - any link?14:48
cpaelzerno action for now14:49
sarnoldexcellent question :) I think ebarretto is the one to ask, he may know if it's got an announcement anywhere or not14:49
cpaelzermy request for a link is just me being curious14:49
cpaelzerThanks ebarretto just reply here if you have anything to share in that regard14:49
sarnoldit does feel weird to not have this package in main given that we use it :/14:50
sarnoldjorge said he was going to ask the fraunhofer folks about his findings in the fdk-aac-free package, but given that the package is a derivative of a derivative I'm not sure if they'll care14:51
cpaelzerwow14:51
sarnoldI'm uneasy about it.14:52
cpaelzerabout it having no clear owner?14:52
sarnoldon the one hand the feature (forwarding audio from remote hosts when doing gnome-remote-desktop things) seems like a very nice feature14:52
sarnoldbut on the other hand, it sure feels like there's zero responsible upstream14:52
sarnoldand codecs .. miserable things.14:52
sarnoldprobably no progress on the other mirs :(14:54
cpaelzeryeah14:54
cpaelzersorry, i got stuck reading into the case14:54
sarnold.. and unlikely to see any, for a few weeks14:54
cpaelzerbut it is licensing - never a quick topic14:54
sarnoldheh, that can happen :)14:54
cpaelzeryou are right to go on14:54
cpaelzer#topic Any other business?14:54
cpaelzernothing from me14:54
sarnoldsee you in the hague :)14:54
sarnoldoh, actually, next week's meeting ..14:54
cpaelzer\o/14:54
sarnoldi propose we cancel it14:55
cpaelzeryeah, there is no way to attend while at sprints14:56
cpaelzerI'll cancel the calendar invite ...14:57
slyono/14:57
* ebarretto reading 14:57
slyondo we still have time?14:57
slyonI wanted to ask about the Sprint MIR sync14:57
slyonit was a MIR sync + office-hours initial. I see its been downgraded to just a "sync" (MIR internal)14:58
slyonwas that intentional, cpaelzer ?14:58
slyonSamir from the Foundations Toolchain squad asked me if we could have MIR office-hours at the sprint, specifically. And was happy to hear that we have something planned.14:58
cpaelzerslyon: yes it was intentional as it collided with a plenary while it was at full size14:59
sarnoldow14:59
sarnoldis it near to the plenary at the start or the end of the day?14:59
cpaelzerIf you sak me - we can welcome guests, but it will eat from the time we have for ourselves14:59
sarnoldif start .. those things almost always run long15:00
cpaelzerno, there is a plenary after lunch15:00
cpaelzerwhich no one expected when planning things early on15:00
cpaelzerbonus :-)15:00
sarnold*middle* of the day? weird15:00
cpaelzerwhich made me shorten our invite15:00
cpaelzerslyon: tell samir to come by still15:00
slyonokay. Let's see how it goes than. We can invite guests and otherwise I might run a team-local Foundations/MIR office hours session afterwards15:00
cpaelzerbut let us not do global office hours, but request based - so we know what to expect15:00
cpaelzerack15:01
cpaelzerclosing ...15:01
cpaelzer#endmeeting15:01
meetingologyMeeting ended at 15:01:16 UTC.  Minutes at https://ubottu.com/meetingology/logs/ubuntu-meeting/2024/ubuntu-meeting.2024-10-15-14.32.moin.txt15:01
sarnoldthanks cpaelzer, slyon, joalif, ebarretto :)15:01
ebarrettocpaelzer: indeed, oval is not dead, the naval information warfare center (NIWC) is the new maintainer and we do have some updates coming to the oval language itself. For openscap itself and the MIR, at this point I think we might reconsider having a snap version of openscap, as it probably won't be backwards compatible. I will see if I talk to standards next week about what should be done15:01
slyonthanks all! (and sorry for being late, I was double-booked)15:01
joalifthanks cpaelzer all!15:02
cpaelzerthanks ebarretto15:02
