icedwaterIf I'm able to connect via SSH to a machine, but none of its display port outputs seems to be triggering a monitor, would a reboot help anything? How can I investigate further? I can't use xrandr over ssh...02:52
icedwaterThose display ports are on a GPU that seems to be stalling on some minor compute tasks too02:52
icedwaterOr could it just be that I happily apt-get dist-upgraded my nvidia drivers out of business... nvidia-smi seems to be unresponsive02:54
rboxrebooting can't make it worse\02:55

glacierDoes anyone know what "End of Life" means on distrowatch?07:30
larkglacier: Doesn't that mean what everyone thinks?07:34
glacierI mean, does it mean the developers stop working on the Distro?07:35
larkyes07:35
glacierDoes that mean I'll need to find a new Distro after or is the Distro still okay to use after?07:36
glacierme realizing I installed a Distro with an end of life about 5 months from now07:36

Axtypitostoddc: Thanks toddc. I think the Jammy version (which is mine) needs to integrate AI. It's difficult for a user to understand why does Ubuntu software is not all located in one place. And why some programs don't seem to uninstall...others don't work at all....and no ranking or other source of info is readily available09:33

DelemasGood morning, it is fairly easy in Ubuntu to blacklist bluetooth altogether. I am trying to figure out how to blacklist only "Intel Corp. Wireless-AC 3168 Bluetooth" and still be able to use a replacement via a plugin USB dongle. This is on a Gigabyte X570 AORUS ELITE WIFI MB if that matters. No it isn't a BIOS option. I'm trying to avoid disassembling to motherboard to remove the hidden pluggin card.12:29
DelemasAnyone know how to do this?12:30
oerhekssystemctl stop bluetooth.service / systemctl disable bluetooth.service / systemctl mask bluetooth.service12:36
DelemasAh I found it. rfkill or an equivalent udev rule lets you do that.12:36
Delemasoerheks that would completely disable bluetooth.12:37
BluesKajHi all12:37
DelemasHmm except rfkill doesn't recognize the device...12:40
DelemasAh it works rfkill block hci0 doesn't work but rfkill block 0 does.12:41
Delemas... And it disables bluetooth globally when you disable a single adapter... Fruit....12:42
mgedminI wonder why my rfkill shows two devices (tpacpi_bluetooth_sw and hci0) when I have only one bluetooth controller12:43
DelemasI have two. The one builtin to the MB is problematic and they didn't make things simple by giving a BIOS option to disable it. Disabling it via udev rules worked.12:51
DelemasOh I don't know about that one...12:51
throwthecheeseWill anybody kindly explain to me how to add a release as affected to Launchpad bug reports?13:05
noob13Not strictly Ubuntu - just happen to be using Ubuntu, but wondering how many people use this Libera chat as the Web App or if most are using their own client13:21
noob13Wondering if anyone has tips on easiest way to set something up13:21
* mgedmin uses a terminal irc client (weechat) and a self-hosted IRC proxy (ZNC) in a VPS, to have persistent chat history, and doesn't think this setup is easy, nor recommended13:28
tomreynnoob13: the libera.chat website lists several IRC clients and other options at https://libera.chat/guides/clients . If you have more questions regarding IRC, those can be discussed in #libera13:33
noob13Thanks tomreyn13:35

hirogenhi anyone installed cyberark epm agent with 24.10 they said they did a sudo-e fix but we're having some weird issue - RUN sudo -e /etc/hosts. epm policy we cerated handeld this request after entering a password -  the Vi editor is opened. we can then press the folloinw vi command to switch to another file owbned by rootm, such as ./etc/shadow - The /etc/shadow/ file can be read and written to. This presents a security risk - The correct sudoedit13:39
hirogenimplementation would not allow this to happen, so basically cyberark said they fixed the sudo -e issue but we found a bug or a whole, i do have screen shots but cant post here13:39
leftyfbhirogen: without using or even mentioning cyberark, can you explain what the issue is ubuntu?13:43
mortHey, what's up with the libminizip1 package? I can see references to it everywhere but it doesn't seem to actually exist?14:11
hirogenwell epm is suppose to prevent permission denied  when elevating  ok so this is more of a epm issues nto ubuntu issue14:11
hirogenshould i try in #ubuntu-security14:11
leftyfbhirogen: epm, the cross-platform package builder?14:12
leftyfbmort: depending on your use case, you could try either libminizip1t64 or libminizip-dev14:13
mortleftyfb: neither of those packages exist either?14:14
leftyfbmort: which release of ubuntu?14:15
mort24.0414:15
leftyfb!universe | mort14:15
ubottumort: The packages in Ubuntu are divided into several sections. More information at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repositories - See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/RecommendedSources for the recommended way to set up your repositories.14:15
mortuniverse is enabled14:15
leftyfbmort: sudo apt update14:16
mortI've done that14:16
leftyfbmort: https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/QXZCTyKmcf/14:17
mortwelp, /etc/os-release looks the same for me but apt-cache policy libminizip-dev just says that it's unable to locate the package14:18
mortnow there's one thing which I don't *think* makes a difference but which might: some icon sources are unable to be downloaded during apt update due to an over-eager content blocker on this network14:19
leftyfbsome icon sources?14:20
mortnamely archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/noble{,-updates,-backports}/{universe,multiverse}/dep11/icons-64x64.tar14:20
mortapt update tries to download those but receives a 503 error14:20
mortbut everything else works, and those files literally just contain pngs14:20
leftyfbok, so your network is blocking your ability to get a full apt update14:21
mortyeah but only the pictures14:21
leftyfbno, your apt updates are failing14:21
mortapt says that the indexes which failed to download have been ignored or old ones used instead14:21
mortthat tells me that the indexes which *didn't* fail to download have been updated as they should14:22
leftyfbmort: get your apt update to complete without failing and you'll then be able to list and install packages from all the repos14:22
mortwhy would that make a difference?14:22
mortit's not like I'm trying to install an icon pack, I'm trying to install a package which should be in one of the indexes which apt says did get successfully updated14:23
leftyfbyour updates are failing, plain and simple. Fix that14:24
mortleftyfb: though you seem to be correct, after fixing that issue, apt claims that there are a bunch of upgrades available and libminizip1 exists14:24
leftyfbjust because the step they are failing on shows the icons tarball, doesn't mean everything else is completing successfully14:24
morteverything else *is* completing successfully though? Nothing indicates that anything is wrong with anything other than the icon indexes14:25
hirogenv nah its a endpoint privilage manager to be fair they haven't replicated the issue so could be something on our side with our configuration15:21
yourfateI started an apt upgrade, the machine can't contact the snap store, and now it keeps extending the timeout. it doesn't react to ctrl+c15:23

yourfateit just gets restarted, rip15:28
sixwheeledbeastwell if a repo has a transitional snap package then yes it's possible apt needs snap.15:30
oerhekssnap refresh15:30
yourfateye, I want to remove the snap packages and snap15:31
yourfatebut that upgrade hangs15:31
sixwheeledbeastyou possibly need to refresh as above. or maybe something about your connection is blocking access to snapstore like a proxy15:32
yourfateye, its blocked15:32
yourfatebut I'll just remove all snap stuff15:32
yourfateand snap itself15:32
yourfatei just rebooted the machine, that ended the stuck upgrade15:33
sixwheeledbeastideally you want a working snapd to remove all the snap packages before then removing snapd and pinning it.15:33
yourfateits probably only the firefox that ships with it15:34
mgedminnext time kill snap, not snapd15:34
yourfateI saw no snap process15:34
yourfateonly snapd15:34
sixwheeledbeastsnap list15:34
mgedminapt runs dpkg, which runs some post-inst script in /var/lib/dpkg/info/, which runs something like snap refresh or snap install, which talks to snapd over a socket and waits for snapd to complete the requested operation15:34
mgedminyou can use pstree -a to see the entire process tree15:35
yourfateI did `ps aux | grep -i snap`15:35
