[07:35] yes [07:36] Does that mean I'll need to find a new Distro after or is the Distro still okay to use after? [07:36] me realizing I installed a Distro with an end of life about 5 months from now [07:36] you should find another distro or upgrade if possible [07:36] okay good to know, thanks [07:37] glacier: what distro [07:37] It's called Accessible-Coconut [07:37] https://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=ac [07:39] Are people here actively working on Ubuntu projects? [11:40] i want to be bleeding edge [11:41] No, but that requires upgrading for every new release, while the LTS version can keep you running for a few years. [11:41] basically it's up to you. [11:41] you want bleeding edge, go 24.10 [11:42] thanks :) === fling_ is now known as fling [12:29] Good morning, it is fairly easy in Ubuntu to blacklist bluetooth altogether. I am trying to figure out how to blacklist only "Intel Corp. Wireless-AC 3168 Bluetooth" and still be able to use a replacement via a plugin USB dongle. This is on a Gigabyte X570 AORUS ELITE WIFI MB if that matters. No it isn't a BIOS option. I'm trying to avoid disassembling to motherboard to remove the hidden pluggin card. [12:30] Anyone know how to do this? [12:36] systemctl stop bluetooth.service / systemctl disable bluetooth.service / systemctl mask bluetooth.service [12:36] Ah I found it. rfkill or an equivalent udev rule lets you do that. [12:37] oerheks that would completely disable bluetooth. [12:37] Hi all [12:40] Hmm except rfkill doesn't recognize the device... [12:41] Ah it works rfkill block hci0 doesn't work but rfkill block 0 does. [12:42] ... And it disables bluetooth globally when you disable a single adapter... Fruit.... [12:43] I wonder why my rfkill shows two devices (tpacpi_bluetooth_sw and hci0) when I have only one bluetooth controller [12:51] I have two. The one builtin to the MB is problematic and they didn't make things simple by giving a BIOS option to disable it. Disabling it via udev rules worked. [12:51] Oh I don't know about that one... [13:05] Will anybody kindly explain to me how to add a release as affected to Launchpad bug reports? [13:21] Not strictly Ubuntu - just happen to be using Ubuntu, but wondering how many people use this Libera chat as the Web App or if most are using their own client [13:21] Wondering if anyone has tips on easiest way to set something up [13:28] * mgedmin uses a terminal irc client (weechat) and a self-hosted IRC proxy (ZNC) in a VPS, to have persistent chat history, and doesn't think this setup is easy, nor recommended [13:33] noob13: the libera.chat website lists several IRC clients and other options at https://libera.chat/guides/clients . If you have more questions regarding IRC, those can be discussed in #libera [13:35] Thanks tomreyn [13:35] you're welcome [13:36] throwthecheese: only developers / bug triagers can do so, i'm afraid. but you can add suitable tags. [13:37] there's also #ubuntu-bugs - which is all about bug triage === Dark_Lord_Of_Deb is now known as DarkLordOfDebian [13:39] hi anyone installed cyberark epm agent with 24.10 they said they did a sudo-e fix but we're having some weird issue - RUN sudo -e /etc/hosts. epm policy we cerated handeld this request after entering a password - the Vi editor is opened. we can then press the folloinw vi command to switch to another file owbned by rootm, such as ./etc/shadow - The /etc/shadow/ file can be read and written to. This presents a security risk - The correct sudoedit [13:39] implementation would not allow this to happen, so basically cyberark said they fixed the sudo -e issue but we found a bug or a whole, i do have screen shots but cant post here [13:43] hirogen: without using or even mentioning cyberark, can you explain what the issue is ubuntu? [14:11] Hey, what's up with the libminizip1 package? I can see references to it everywhere but it doesn't seem to actually exist? [14:11] well epm is suppose to prevent permission denied when elevating ok so this is more of a epm issues nto ubuntu issue [14:11] should i try in #ubuntu-security [14:12] hirogen: epm, the cross-platform package builder? [14:13] mort: depending on your use case, you could try either libminizip1t64 or libminizip-dev [14:14] leftyfb: neither of those packages exist either? [14:15] mort: which release of ubuntu? [14:15] 24.04 [14:15] !universe | mort [14:15] mort: The packages in Ubuntu are divided into several sections. More information at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repositories - See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/RecommendedSources for the recommended way to set up your repositories. [14:15] universe is enabled [14:16] mort: sudo apt update [14:16] I've done that [14:17] mort: https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/QXZCTyKmcf/ [14:18] welp, /etc/os-release looks the same for me but apt-cache policy libminizip-dev just says that it's unable to locate the package [14:19] now there's one thing which I don't *think* makes a difference but which might: some icon sources are unable to be downloaded during apt update due to an over-eager content blocker on this network [14:20] some icon sources? [14:20] namely archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/noble{,-updates,-backports}/{universe,multiverse}/dep11/icons-64x64.tar [14:20] apt update tries to download those but receives a 503 error [14:20] but everything else works, and those files literally just contain pngs [14:21] ok, so your network is blocking your ability to get a full apt update [14:21] yeah but only the pictures [14:21] no, your apt updates are failing [14:21] apt says that the indexes which failed to download have been ignored or old ones used instead [14:22] that tells me that the indexes which *didn't* fail to download have been updated as they should [14:22] mort: get your apt update to complete without failing and you'll then be able to list and install packages from all the repos [14:22] why would that make a difference? [14:23] it's not like I'm trying to install an icon pack, I'm trying to install a package which should be in one of the indexes which apt says did get successfully updated [14:24] your updates are failing, plain and simple. Fix that [14:24] leftyfb: though you seem to be correct, after fixing that issue, apt claims that there are a bunch of upgrades available and libminizip1 exists [14:24] just because the step they are failing on shows the icons tarball, doesn't mean everything else is completing successfully [14:25] everything else *is* completing successfully though? Nothing indicates that anything is wrong with anything other than the icon indexes [15:21] v nah its a endpoint privilage manager to be fair they haven't replicated the issue so could be something on our side with our configuration [15:23] I started an apt upgrade, the machine can't contact the snap store, and now it keeps extending the timeout. it doesn't react to ctrl+c [15:23] it did it for 30 mins at first, now it showed "trying for another 20 mins" [15:23] lol [15:23] should I just kill apt? [15:24] apt doesn't have anything to do with snap [15:24] kill snap :P [15:24] snap kills dumbledore [15:27] killed snapd, the upgarde is still stuck there :x [15:27] no error [15:28] it just gets restarted, rip [15:30] well if a repo has a transitional snap package then yes it's possible apt needs snap. [15:30] snap refresh [15:31] ye, I want to remove the snap packages and snap [15:31] but that upgrade hangs [15:32] you possibly need to refresh as above. or maybe something about your connection is blocking access to snapstore like a proxy [15:32] ye, its blocked [15:32] but I'll just remove all snap stuff [15:32] and snap itself [15:33] i just rebooted the machine, that ended the stuck upgrade [15:33] ideally you want a working snapd to remove all the snap packages before then removing snapd and pinning it. [15:34] its probably only the firefox that ships with it [15:34] next time kill snap, not snapd [15:34] I saw no snap process [15:34] only snapd [15:34] snap list [15:34] apt runs dpkg, which runs some post-inst script in /var/lib/dpkg/info/, which runs something like snap refresh or snap install, which talks to snapd over a socket and waits for snapd to complete the requested operation [15:35] you can use pstree -a to see the entire process tree [15:35] I did `ps aux | grep -i snap` [15:35] hmm === justache is now known as reddit-bot [16:12] removing snapd and snaps is useless, change distro. [16:15] lubuntu mini seems to be snapless [16:16] oh? [16:16] no pro and livepatch then? [16:17] not sure, dindt test myself oerheks but guiverc told me [16:17] maybe xubuntu noble mini too? [16:18] it looks like i have copy'n'paste issues on snap firefox [16:22] screen brightness should appear here, right? could it be that its not supported for this display? https://usercontent.irccloud-cdn.com/file/SGjb9FDB/image.png [16:35] i dont think brightness is managed by ubuntu settings [16:53] ah thanks! i found out that i can change it in the command line, but my keyboard lacks keys for brightness :D [16:56] that doesn't look like gnome to me === bearen1 is now known as bearen [16:57] gnome-control-center doesn't have screen brightnes, but gnome-shell's system menu has a bar for it, right underneath the sound volume bar [16:58] brightness keys on your laptop are hardware keys [16:58] xfce [16:59] and wich laptop model fweht [16:59] imac, not a laptop [16:59] i found out that you can have a power management icon in the tray, but it doesnt do anything for me :/ [16:59] but `xrandr` is working fine [17:04] maybe i need to install `xbacklight` or `brightnessctl`? are they not included in minimal install?
