myrtiI upgraded to kubuntu 24.10 yesterday and my shortkey for switching between activites doesn't work anymore. I had a look in the shortkeys and they offer to define shortkeys for specific activites but not one for switching between activites. Is there a way for me to manually add that back in?10:48
myrtinevermind I found it. For some reason the hotkey is not under activities but under plasmashell10:52

IrcsomeBot_<Omarvx211> Hello there20:13
IrcsomeBot_<Omarvx211> So I'm on kubuntu 24.04 and i see spectacle have screen recording now20:14
IrcsomeBot_<Omarvx211> But there is no audio is this correct?20:14
bpromptOmarvx21:   dunno myself, I have used it only for snapshots in the past, are  you just trying to do a desktop screen recording with audio?20:17
bpromptOmarvx21:   hmm I just looked at it, nope, Spectable is simply for screenshots, mind you that "flameshot" is superior IMO for that, which is what I mostly use20:20
skramerI used to connect to second PC via KRDC, both on Kubuntu 22.04. After I upgraded the 2nd machine to 24.04 connection is not possible any more. Any advice?20:37
bpromptskramer: I haven't used KRDC for connecting to another machine, however, don't expect all libraries to be the same, or the configuration to remain the same, it could have changed in a miniscule way, but enough for that to happen20:41

bpromptsadly, many folks seem to forget that now and then21:07
bpromptBBS == Bulletin Board System, pretty much a pasteboard where you can post something, and then come back for any replies21:08
joshuamaximussorry21:08
joshuamaximusi just thought u could get tech support here21:09
bpromptyou can, however bear in mind IRC is very dynamic, users come and go by the minute sometimes by the seconds, and since the planet has 24 timezones, users will vary, say for example right now in the US is daytime, so you get many from there, say at Australia is early in the morning, some are or not here, and so on21:11
joshuamaximuswhere can i donate to linux for people to reap the pay off me21:12
joshuamaximusnever mind21:12
bpromptjoshuamaximus:     http://pastie.org/p/0pRH4ICokjLR8Wc3XgE0Ui     <----- that's while you were gone21:15
joshuamaximusis their a way to set grub to boot to one specific kernel21:15
joshuamaximusso doing that will not remove the kernels i want removed21:17
joshuamaximusi think i only have two kernels right now21:17
joshuamaximusone old that i am on now and the other new21:17
bpromptright21:17
joshuamaximusso how do i remove the new21:18
bpromptjoshuamaximus: removing on kernel, does a grub reconfiguration usually IIRC21:18
bpromptwell, as suggested run a ----> pkg -l | grep linux-image   <--- that's going to list the images, then remove the one you don't want, namely the new one21:19
bpromptwoops21:19
bpromptso much for my copy/paste =)21:19

bprompthmmm what's the name of the one you don't want, as listed from the dpkg command?21:21

oerheksremove the higher number, easy peasy21:22
joshuamaximusyea but whats the remove command21:22
joshuamaximusi know u would have to update grub after21:22
joshuamaximusor update grub221:23
joshuamaximusis kubuntu on grub 1 or 221:24
joshuamaximusmy system is a uefi system21:24
oerheksapt-get --purge remove21:24
oerhekslinux-image-<something>-generic linux-headers-<something>-generic21:25
bpromptwell, as oerheks said, but prefix it with "sudo"21:25
oerheksthen sudo apt-get --purge autoremove for the rest that stays behind21:25
bpromptone may note that "apt" supports "apt" alone, without the -get suffix =)21:26
oerheksupdate-grub and voila21:26
joshuamaximusyea21:26
joshuamaximusthanks21:26

bpromptjoshuamaximus: -----> sudo apt purge NAME-OF-PACKAGE-HERE21:42
bpromptwb joshuamaximus , any good news?21:48
joshuamaximusafter i did a grub update it put the lastest kernel back in21:49
joshuamaximusi think21:49
joshuamaximusbut thanks for the welcome back21:50
bprompthmmmm21:51
joshuamaximuswell let me see if i was just seeing things21:52
bpromptI think I know what's cooking, the system is doing an autoupdate, which is its default behaviour, so if you have an old package and finds a new one in the repository, it goes ahead, "without asking you", and gets the new without you looking21:53
joshuamaximusi see21:53
bpromptin which case, redo the "sudo apt purge", however, turn off autoupdates21:53
bpromptmind you that's one of the things I do right after a install, I turn off autoupdates, I only updates packages manually, so I know which is which21:54
joshuamaximusso21:58
joshuamaximushow do i make sure all auto updates are off21:58

joshuamaximusdidn't mean to flood22:04
joshuamaximusnow22:07
bpromptturn off the autoupdates, then remove the kernel again22:07
joshuamaximusin synaptic how can i remove the kernel i don't want22:07
bpromptdo the update-grub too btw22:07
bpromptjoshuamaximus: you have to run synaptic as "root" first off, the rest is simple, just do a quick "find", ctrl-f, to find it and then select it and right-click it22:08
bpromptwell, I think you may not need to run synaptic as root, it may prompt for password when trying to do anything "root", if it doesn't, simply run it as  root22:09

joshuamaximusi search for kernel in synaptic22:31
joshuamaximusand don't get the package i want to remove22:31
