eruditehermitis there a place to ask about bluez/pipewire? I am getting an error about wireplumber[10903]: spa.bluez5: Failure in Bluetooth audio transport /org/bluez/hci0/dev_24_95_2F_AF_2A_3D/fd14 and my headset remains connected to bt but the audio cuts out periodically.08:14
skramerHave there been any changes in the configuration of RDP connections between 22.04 and 24.04? Because I recently upgraded one of my laptops (the client) to 24.04 but ever since it just shows KDE splash screen and ends with bllack screen with any X-like cursor.08:20
skramerNever experienced such issue before...08:21
skramerBtw., the login and logout screens are shown as normal. It seems to be just the Plasma workspace that is not shown in KRDC. On the machine itself, it is working just fine.09:13
skramerStill, there are two other issues: The GRUB boot menu is not shown, even after I did an update-grub. And the KDE wallet does not accept it's password and I could not find out how to fix that, yet.09:16
cbreakskramer: have you tried logging in into the x11 plasma desktop instead of wayland?11:43
skramercbreak: Honestly I did not even think it could use Wayland. I have to do something else now but will check later this afternoon. Meanwhile, thanks for the hint :)12:14
IrcsomeBot_<a1ch3mist> Hello, can I install Kubuntu without snapd?12:18
mparilloI saw a post on how to install Debian the Arch way. So, probably there is some way, but it is much easier to remove snapd after installation.12:20
skramercbreak: I just double checked. It's running on Xorg and there is not even any other choice13:27
naktibaldaHi, I have used Kubuntu on multiple computers for many years. I reinstalled Kubuntu 24.04 today and I just can't get sudo working in konsole. sudo and software center just does not accept correct password that I used for login.13:57
naktibaldaI had success maybe 2 or 3 times out of hundred and I started suspecting that it might be related to keyboard layout settings or that it doesn't accept numbers from numpad, but it does't seem right either.13:59
naktibaldaah, I see this error in the logs: pam_unix(sudo:auth): conversation failed, auth could not identify password for [username]14:11
BluesKajHi all14:34
naktibaldareinstalling the same version (24.04.01) didn't help, sudo is still broken15:06
malshantest15:53
tomreynnaktibalda: i can't think of anything causing this other than PAM (/etc/pam*) or sudo (/etc/sudo*) configuration changes16:09
naktibaldaI installed 24.10 and left system langauge set to English, just in case locale was causing problems, so far it looks good.16:09
tomreynwhich very "sudo" command are you using to test?16:11
tomreyni usually test sudo using "sudo id"16:11

karenwHelp! After rebooting my laptop SDDM fails to start unless I boot via "recovery mode" in grub. Assuming this is therefore some race condition but no idea how to debug. SDDM log says "Failed to read display number from pipe" which is super generic.17:29
karenwThis boot (from recovery mode) seems to not be using gpu acceleration for anything. (vulkaninfo lists only llvmpipe, and kwin_wayland is using 100% of a cpu core)17:42
karenwWhich is helpful in that it works, but not helpful in that it's painfully slow.17:43
adiumkarenw: dual boot?17:44
karenwadium: Nope. Clean install of kubuntu 24.10 (with disk encryption)17:45
karenwWheee, some apps are trippy and have R and B channels flipped. This gets better and better. /s17:57
adiumi'm not an expert but it could be the disk encrpytion18:01
adiumhave you searched the forum, karenw?18:02
karenwWeird it's been working for a while and now not working.18:02
karenwI assumed it was more likely an update to linux-firmware or somesuch.18:02
adiumhmmm, can you search for updates in the firmware?18:03
karenwNot sure, I tried booting older kernels but they failed in the same way18:05
karenwThis is a pretty cursed machine due to the dual graphics, with the two chips using different gpu drivers, radeon (integrated) and amdgpu (performance).18:05
adiumnah, i'm saying which updates broke your sistem18:05
adiumi'm thinking it broke today or yesterday, so see what updates happened before18:06
adiumand undo (idk)18:06
adiumyou can always go full nuclear and do a clean install18:06
karenwMachine hasn't been powered on over xmas, I think it's this update that would have broken it: https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/Fx67cnh5TQ/18:08
karenwIf it was an update18:08
karenwYeah, I'm away from home atm. If I can't find a fix by the time I get back, bakup, format, reinstall.18:08
adiumoh, ok18:09
adiumi think it was, but it can always be a hardware related problem, karenw18:09
karenwAs I said, cursed. (And 10 years old) wouldn't surprise me.18:10
karenwSanta is going to take a trip to the store in the Janurary sales and buy me a new laptop I think.18:11
karenwGoing to revert my manual modprobe settings and try using radeon driver for both chips (the default out of the box). See if that at least brings back hardware OpenGL accel.18:22
karenwSuccess. RIP vulkan support I guess.18:28

celtheartI am having a hard time recovering my files from "Backups" I need some advice, please.  When I go to restore my files, I want them to be restored to a particualar folder.  So when I run the restore procedure the only thing that is restored is the ".cache" folder and its contents.  When I browse the backup archive everything in my previous home folder is there, and i can even copy and from it.  That would be tedious if it was the only way to get my files19:20
celtheartback.  Thank you.19:20
celtheartOh i forgot to mention:  I tried to select all and copy but when i do it that way there is a series of crashes.  If i recall kioslave starts crashing like crazy over and over like 13 times.19:26
celthearti think it was called kioslave or something similar19:26
celtheartThis is a fresh install of Kubuntu 24.04 LTS.  First boot.  The only thing I've done is downloaded timeshift and ran it to back up my / partition, minus /root and /home.19:31
celtheartI installed the full kubuntu option19:31

celtheartI'm trying to enable Night Color  in the Kubuntu settings.  I changed the Switching times to "Sunset and sunrise at current location." When I click apply it just says Loading with an animated bar, but nothing happens.  I let it sit like that for an hour.  What should i do, Please.23:59
