[00:51] causative_, are you using a laptop and have wifi turned off? [00:54] If yes - then try turning the wifi on and leaving it on even if you don't use it. My bluetooth headphones had terrible connection - like moving my head a little bit would cause cut outs, ultimately I discovered that if I turn on the wifi (even though I don't need it and I use a wired connection) - then there's no problem - I can go all the way to the next room and it still works perfectly. [00:54] weeeird [00:55] My hypothesis is that it has something to do with the fact the chipset apparently is integrated, i.e. I guess it's like both bluetooth and wifi implemented in a single ASIC or something... And maybe powering off the wifi part causes the bluetooth part to be underpowered or something?.. [01:35] Greetings, Do you know if Ubuntu 24 Server supports DELL C6420? [09:55] I currently know and understand next to nothing about Linux in general, but I've been frantically Googling when I can, trying to learn. [09:55] After trying, it became clear to me that my hardware was much too old to support the latest (24.04.1 LTS and 24.10) Ubuntu at all. I fruitlessly tried versions one at a time all the way down to 18.04, before giving up on that and trying some alternate flavours of Ubuntu such as Lubuntu, and Xubuntu. [09:55] Every version of Ubuntu I tried, along with Lubuntu and Xubuntu did not like my GPU at all, and I couldn't seem to figure out how to make it to the desktop(?) after it was installed. Safe graphics mode worked fine to let me install it, and even poke around in the "live" preview thing, but it never gave me the option to boot with safe graphics again [09:55] afterward, so I was just met with a static screen of graphical artefacts at every boot attempt. [09:55] Short of upgrading my hardware (yes I know it's egregiously outdated, especially the GPU...), is there any alternative? I'm a bit stuck, since Windows 7 isn't supported by anything any more and I cannot run any Windows newer than that because of my hardware. Also, I apologise for the large amount of text. I had much more typed out, but sat here for [10:03] I'm a bit confused, do I need to re-send my above query in a paste? [10:05] webchat67, I think you can try older versions of Ubuntu, if upgrading you hardware is not an option [10:08] also there is a posibility that some hardware pieces are not supported at all [10:08] Yoqqu, would I need to try older than 18.04? I wasn't certain how far back I could go, and still have support for software. [10:08] try to find some info if your hardware is supported at all (drivers, etc) [10:09] I had similar problems in the past, with missing drivers for some equipment [10:10] can't say anything about your specific processor and gpu [10:17] If it would help any, the motherboard's model is "MCP73VT-PM", which was taken from an old "eMachines" desktop around ~2008 or so. I'm not certain how to go about looking for information about my hardware being supported. Could I please be pointed in a general direction? [10:20] https://linuxiac.com/linux-birthday/ [10:29] It looks as if there was mention of the GeForce 7800 GT in a stack exchange thread regarding Ubuntu 14.04, where they said they couldn't get it working either. Although, this appears to be about the nouveau driver rather than proprietary. === Edgy28 is now known as Edgy2 [10:40] Well, I guess I'll have to keep using Windows 7 until I can figure something out.
