=== guiverc2 is now known as guiverc [17:49] Hi. [17:49] I installed a package called ddcci-dkms which I need for another package called brightnessctl and when I installed this package I got a message from Synaptic about something called a machine owner key. [17:49] It said it will be getting changed and when I reboot my computer I will need to enter it otherwise some third-party devices will not work. I had to enter a new key, which I did, but when I rebooted the computer and some options came up against a blue background I just continued to boot because there were multiple options and I didn't know which one [17:49] to choose. [17:49] I wanted to read the popup message I got from Synaptic again to double-check what I needed to do, so I tried reinstalling the ddcci-dkms package but it didn't show the popup again and I tried removing the package completely and reinstalling it but once again the popup didn't show up. If I knew this would happen I would have copied the text to [17:49] Mousepad, or maybe I should have written it down before rebooting. [17:52] Hi. It said it will be getting changed and when I reboot my computer I will need to enter it otherwise some third-party devices will not work. I had [17:52] to enter a new key as part of the installation, which I did, but when I rebooted the computer and some options came up against a blue background I just continued to boot because there were multiple options and I didn't know which one to choose. I wanted to read the popup message I got from Synaptic again to double-check what I needed to do, so I [17:52] tried reinstalling the ddcci-dkms package but it didn't show the popup again and I tried removing the package completely and reinstalling it but once again the popup didn't show up. If I knew this would happen I would have copied the text to Mousepad, or maybe I should have written it down before rebooting. Can anyone help? [18:11] right, I'm going to try rebooting again and 'enrolling' the MOK, I think that was probably what it wanted me to do. I'll join back here in case anyone answers. [18:14] oh, the options didn't appear this time. that's what I thought it might do. and my monitor still doesn't appear in brightnessctl, that's what I needed that additional package for. great. [18:24] oh, I think I found an answer https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=345767 [18:25] sudo update-secureboot-policy --enroll-key brings up that same message except in the Terminal [18:26] only it seems to be resetting it from the beginning instead of asking for the key I already entered. I hope that works. [18:27] will restart again and come back [18:29] well, that didn't help the brightness program. maybe I should give up [18:30] oh yeah, for correctness, I think it said 'devices that require third-party drivers', not 'third-party devices'
