[13:55] https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-devel-announce/2025-January/001365.html [14:48] Yes, I read about that on OMG Ubuntu, we've got Kubuntu community Matrix channels, which have a small number of users, and Matrix as a platform seems to work well. If we're going to officially change, then we probably need to ship Element rather than Neochat, as the Ubuntu instructions are for Element. [17:00] Rick_Timmis: Shipping Element may not be easy or allowable, even though the Snap is maintained by a trusted dev, it's not really an "official" Canonical thing... [17:00] but you know what... maybe we can change that. Off to the Discourse I go [17:05] At the moment this is in the context of dev channels for element, so not sure really why we as a user flavour would need to change our client [17:07] it's part of a larger move though (lots of Ubuntu has been trickling into Matrix over time), and tbh NeoChat stinks. It's a great idea, and I've used it extensively myself, but it crashes easily and has very noticeable bugs that directly impact the user experience. [17:07] Element isn't perfect, but from a usability standpoint it's much better than NeoChat. [17:07] Also, the NeoChat package we're shipping currently is the deb package, and as the Matrix spec evolves, that package will probably go out of date and might not even be usable in the long run (similar to what happened to the telegram-desktop deb) [17:09] Don't misunderstand me. I would have no complaints. I use element :P [17:15] https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/shipping-the-element-desktop-snap-in-official-ubuntu-flavors/54208 === arraybolt3_ is now known as arraybolt3 [18:32] Thanks for starting that thread, it looks as though if we get confirmation from someone on TB we can ship, which I think would show us as moving in alignment, which is great 👍 [18:49] Not quite confirmation, but at least very good guidence. [18:49] There's still some issues that would need worked out.
