[17:26] hostnamectl set-hostname [17:29] oh, use sudo to make it stick across reboots [17:29] or the old way; edit /etc/hostname and /etc/hosts + reboot [17:34] I read some place they say i must "Edit the /etc/hosts file" too. [17:35] Hi, Good Morning and Good Evening [17:36] yes /etc/hostname and /etc/hosts [17:36] Power Management on the panel does not allow me to select Power Save/Balanced/Performance any longer. There is no option to change anything regarding power management [17:36] Is there a method to regain access to this? [17:37] I used to be able to a few weeks ago. Was there an update that removed this feature/option? [17:38] not sure what happened, make sure power-profiles-daemon is installed? [17:39] also a check; powerprofilectl list [17:39] lets see [17:41] : It should be possible to change the hostname in the menu, e.g. under settings. [17:41] oerheks: battery is decreasing so much faster without access to controls [17:41] Guest6133, it is not. [17:41] whereis power-profiles-daemon [17:41] what does it say in console? [17:41] there is no reason to change hostname like irc name [17:42] oerheks: power-profiles-daemon was uninstalled? dangit, how could this have happened? I never touched that. I installed TLP a few days ago, could that have uninstalled ppp? [17:42] maybe [17:42] calwig, maybe, i have no clue. [17:43] i did check installing tlp indeed uninstall ppd [17:43] TLP does something drastic with your install, you really must have a reason to use it [17:43] kubuntu/plasma6 gets better [17:43] well i was suggested to use tlp, but i shouldn't have.. since ppp was or must have been functioning correctly. [17:44] brb [17:44] I cud be agree, but compare to windows you can easely change it in the system meny. Some times it can be an idea to change it. [17:44] hostnamectl set-hostname *without* sudo is just for your current session [17:47] ok thank you anyway. [17:48] have fun! [18:14] oerheks: thanks, the profile mgr has been restored. I dunno if the tlp program removed it, I certainly did not. the options on the batt/charge section to chose the power are restored and back to the way I had seen them. [18:15] I thought that maybe kubuntu just didnt load certain apps properly, so when the power was removed the profile didnt load the power options, that's what I thought. [18:19] oerheks: the ppd looks slightly updated/modified, still, the options/configuration section does not allow for either of the 3 profiles to be chosen when power changes. Do you know how to fix hthis? [18:20] Try: sudo systemctl enable --now power-profiles-daemon (re @IrcsomeBot: oerheks: the ppd looks slightly updated/modified, still, the options/configuration section does not allow for either of the 3 profiles to be chosen when power changes. Do you know how to fix hthis?) [18:21] ahh [18:24] good spot, Zebraherz [18:25] NOW its updated to allow for profile selection. === Lord_of_Life_ is now known as Lord_of_Life [18:26] :-) [18:27] 😊 [18:28] what does the systemctl enable command do? allow for configuring the power profiles in the system settings? [18:30] It`s self explaining. It enables the daemon. (re @IrcsomeBot: what does the systemctl enable command do? allow for configuring the power profiles in the system settings?) [18:32] but isn't the daemon enabled when the ppd is installed? i mean yes the command does ENABLE the daemon, but that's all good, the selection allows changes manually on the panel. The configuring On Ac/On Batt section was not allowing me to chose, up until now. It could have been the ppd was just updated with new config settings to allow for this? [18:34] It should. No idea why not. (re @IrcsomeBot: but isn't the daemon enabled when the ppd is installed? i mean yes the command does ENABLE the daemon, but that's all good, the selection allows changes manually on the panel. [18:36] as long as the profiles function, it works. [18:36] thx [18:36] :) [21:31] Is there any way to configure snap package manager to be less talky? Kubuntu comes with Firefox by default which is updated via snap and it is *very* talky with its notifications.
