BluesKajHi all12:48
SpringAfter changing the root user password via GRUB I'm trying to authenticate in the KDE GUI to enable the Firewall but it's rejecting the password, despite it working for `su`. Am I missing something?13:21
SpringOk, was just that I had a single admin only level user that was separate, too. Forced a password change for that account and it's working now.13:31
BluesKajyeah, best to change your pw in system settings/users13:34
Wahnsinn77Hello! I have a problem with Kubuntu 24.04 and a brother printer. Is anyone around here who might be able to help me or did i end up in the wrong channel?13:39
tuxinatorOn a single Computer, when we add a AD/SSSD User to a local group, the group membership is not shown in konsole when entering groups but it is when logging in to a "Real TTY", nss config looks ok, any Idea?13:39
Wahnsinn77I'm running Kubuntu 24.04 on an AM4 system. Today i wanted to print with my Brother HL-3140CW printer. The printer is set up as a network printer. This used to work just fine and also setting up the printer was very simple. Today the printer appeard to be offline and i couldn't print. Eventually i reset the Network Setup of the printer and13:50
Wahnsinn77reconnected to my WiFi. Didn't help. So i got a USB-Cable to connect the printer, but a system dialog popped up which told me that there is no driver for my Brother HL-3140CW. This dialogue offered a "Search" button which seemed to do nothing. Also, installing the driver package from brother (the LPR Package) didn't help.13:50
Wahnsinn77Again: Originally this was mostly plug and play, but now it just doesn't work. The same is true on my laptop, tried the same steps except installing the driver package on my laptop.13:50
Wahnsinn77Any help is highly appreciated, thank you very much in advance!13:50
oerheksBrother HL-3140CW is an dricverless printer, https://openprinting.github.io/printers/ , go to localhost:631/printers  and see if you can add it there ( IPP)14:37

Wahnsinn77thank you, oerheks. i was not able to add it at localhost:631/printers or anywhere else. when i opened the system dialog to add a printer, the printer used to show up. thanks to the links and keywords provided by you, i guess this function is thanks to the snmp protocol. i prompted the following into the console: CUPS_DEBUG_LEVEL=215:16
Wahnsinn77/usr/lib/cups/backend/snmp @LOCAL 2>&1 | tee snmp.log15:16
Wahnsinn77but the scan didn't find no printer. i reset the network again, rebooted the computer aswell as the printer, but nothing changed. i cannot make sense of this.15:16
