[12:03] Hey, I have a question: If I I'm going to install KDE and SDDM over LXDE anyway, is there much point in using Lubuntu over Kubuntu? Or do the optimizations stretch further than just the default DE and display manager? [12:04] *LXQT, I mean [12:07] you might as well just install kubuntu and have your live usb prepared with kubuntu [12:07] why do double-handling if you can skip a step [12:07] however, nearly all distros are flexible and allow you to install something else after starting with something else [12:08] lubuntu has a very narrow selling point/audience [12:08] I actually prefer bunsenlabs these days, because lxqt is too much and lxde was never nice looking anyway either [12:08] (bunsenlabs uses openbox by default) [12:09] DCreator112: what hardware config do you have? [12:10] 16GB of RAM, AMD Ryzen 7 CPU [12:11] that's way too much power [12:11] I main a core i3 haswell (4th gen), 16GB DDR3 RAM. but I use i3wm on that [12:11] it can handle gnome or kde too, but less well [12:11] so no need to run lxqt [12:12] lubuntu I think it really more targeted for computers older than 10 years old [12:12] maybe older than 15 years old [12:12] OK, thanks for the help :) [12:12] pretty much choose whatever distro/DE looks nice to you; although window managers will still always be faster/more efficient [12:12] especially tiling window managers like sway or i3wm [12:13] but openbox is very usable too if you want to squeeze every bit of performance out [12:14] ubuntu, xubuntu, kubuntu, ubuntu cinnamon; they're all *buntus [12:14] lubuntu occupies an odd space now that they don't support 32-bit anymore [12:15] it's almost as if any system that supports 64-bit will run any other DE just fine [12:15] *with caveats; depending on how hard you push it. so yeah, there's still a compelling case for window managers and possibly lxqt [12:15] anyway; you can install them all side by side and switch between them at your login manager [12:16] and in effect have all the flavours of ubuntu at the same time [16:27] i'm having trouble starting the desktop with lubuntu 25.04 thought startx works. What can i look at to figure out what's wrong?
