omega_doomhello. I am still trying to solve a problem with nvidia drivers. Driver exists with an error during boot and boot process is trying to load it in infinite loop. It looks like severe bug to me. I found a workaround by blacklisting all nvidia drivers in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf. By doing so nvidia drivers are loaded successfully. It looks like09:51
omega_doomsome race problem. How can i troubleshoot it further?09:51
diogenessomega_doom: try to disable secure boot and see if the problem persists.10:03
omega_doomdiogeness: It is disabled.10:04
diogenessomega_doom: how did you install the nvidia drivers?10:05
wezWouldn't you do that via https://documentation.ubuntu.com/server/how-to/graphics/install-nvidia-drivers/?10:06
omega_doomdiogeness: Through normal process "ubuntu-drivers install" I installed latest, recommended 575 driver.10:06
omega_doomwez: Yes, it is what i do.10:07
wezNice!10:08
diogenessomega_doom: what GPU model you have10:09
omega_doomNVIDIA Corporation AD107M [GeForce RTX 4060 Max-Q / Mobile] (rev a1)10:10
omega_doom90The problem is i have no idea where to consult when i have such problems with drivers. I tried nvidia dev forum but it looks like they are not in a hurry to look at it.10:23
diogenessomega_doom90: you might try the nvk driver.10:35

BluesKajHi all10:59
ravage1If you just went to rent there are other rooms for that11:00
ravage1Rant11:00
mrecuser well I'm using it with ubuntu... I'm able to resolve the printer IP, however cups shows: Name unknown, user: held back, pages: unknown11:00
mrecfirst of all user held back is nonsense; pages - another nonsense because it received the job from the local application11:01
mrecdecades of nonsense.. and then ... it cannot resolve the printer but it detects it11:01
mrecthe error messages are stuck in a format of 1990. while the issues are very clear11:02
mrecit's fixed but .. just nonsense the error messages should be reworked.11:05
mrecI set it to IPP that works the auto detection does not work properly.11:06
mrecthe fun part of it is it worked in the past so something broke during the last updates.11:06

Guest6918hi pls, how to show deskto by a button?13:56
Guest6918without WIN+D13:56
Guest6918just a click is easier, latest time i donwloaded an app from app center, byt i got many problems13:56
PeGaSuSI don't see how Win+D is harder then wiggling the mouse around to click on a random button14:05
sbinescroll_bottom14:05
tomreynGuest6918: there should be a tiny strip top right corner (on the panel) which will show the desktop14:05
tomreynthis is provided by dash-to-panel (if active)14:07
tomreynthere is also https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/4267/show-desktop-applet/14:07
Guest6918PeGaSuS, sbine tomreyn14:27
Guest6918For me the key is more comfortable ....14:27
Guest6918At the top right there is the notification area, the section where the basic settings are and to turn off, but I can't find this strip that you speak ...14:27
Guest6918On the left at the top left there is a longer "line" that represents the active desktop and subsequent dots for each new desktop that is created, doing with the wheel there or on an empty point of the app bar on the left shows me the desktop, but it shows me the next, I find much more comfortable to use the first one because if not it becomes all dispersive to create a new desktop for each new operation or every time I need the14:27
Guest6918first desktop, keep everything on the first desktop for me for me for me. It is much better than after finding 4-5 and having to close them, you can keep the whole session under one desktop so I wanted that button14:27
Guest6918tomreyn, how have i to search in app center to find that app u linked?14:27

Guest39Does anyone know a good way to stream or cast from a linux PC to an Apple Smart TV? I tried casting from the chrome browser but it does not work.14:51
Guest6918tomreyn, Tomreyn, I do not make that app in the App Center and I don't even find another one, the other time I installed an app called "take a look at the desktop" but installing a whole series of 4-5 application that had nothing to do with it and that I didn't need it and then it was a mess to remove them because they could not uninstall14:56
PeGaSuSGuest6918: on the https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/4267/show-desktop-applet/ page there's a "Install" button. did you try it?14:58
=== Morfeus^ is now known as _--_
Guest6918PeGaSuS, i don't find it15:09
Guest6918PeGaSuS, i find it, but in doesn't install anything15:12
PeGaSuSGuest6918: do you have `gnome-shell-extension-manager` (sudo apt install gnome-shell-extension-manager) installed? if so, clicking on that "Install" should install the button if your shell versionm supports it. you can even force the install on nnon-supported15:16
Guest6918PeGaSuS, Sorry I did not understand anything, I am not very good at the PC, I have to install the entertainment manager first if I understand correctly, I find it in the App Center?15:18
PeGaSuSyou need `gnome-shell-extension-manager` to be installed in order to install that extension via the "Install" button on the page15:19
Guest6918ok, do i find it in app center?15:20
Guest6918have i to write "Gnome shell extension" in search box?15:20
Guest6918PeGaSuS,15:20
PeGaSuSjust `sudo apt install gnome-shell-extension-manager`15:21
PeGaSuSthe extension doesn't seem to work on Ubuntu 25.04, though15:22
PeGaSuSafter that: Show Apps > Extension Manager > Browse > search for "Show Desktop Button" > choose the one on the top (the dev should be amivaleo) and the button should appear on the top far right of your screen, near the powewr menu15:27
PeGaSuS(the one from amivaleo works with Ubuntu 25.04)15:28
Guest6918PeGaSuS, pls don't let me use terminal, often i wrong even 'cause i have problem at sight15:29
Guest6918Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS15:29
Guest6918anyway this is my ubuntu15:29
Guest6918i found this in app center   https://github.com/mjakeman/extension-manager15:29
Guest6918is this?15:29
PeGaSuSplease, just type: sudo apt install gnome-shell-extension-manager15:30
PeGaSuSon yout terminal15:30
PeGaSuSafter that, you'll have the `Extension Manager` on your apps, like this: https://imgur.com/nThYgch15:34
Guest6918PeGaSuS, ok, i just don't know if it's the manager u'r talking about15:37
Guest6918anyway the site that will be opened by the link in app details is this https://github.com/mjakeman/extension-manager15:38
Guest6918the icon is the same of that shown in your pic15:38
PeGaSuSGuest6918: if you type "sudo apt install gnome-shell-extension-manager", you don't need to go to any websites15:39
PeGaSuSI'm guiding you step by step. you just need to type the command I've provided and then follow the Extension Manager istructions,15:39
Guest6918i just put the link to be sure that is the same app u'r talking abount and not a different one15:40
Guest6918even if icon is the same, maybe they use the same icon but the app is different, that's way i put the link but the app i installed by app center, not by link15:41
PeGaSuSGuest6918: if you use apt you'll install the official one, so, you're fine15:42
Guest6918even from app center, it's the official one, excuse me but i don't prefer use terminal, in past i did very big mistakes and error15:43
Guest6918so troble for me, even because i have sight problem, it's difficult to use it15:43
ioriaGuest6918, even with copy paste ?15:43
Guest6918*trouble, (excuse for my englsh15:43
Guest6918sometimes i wrong some step or just one character in command line, so i prefer to not use it, i'm not very good at pc, risks to do other heavy prbmels if i wrong something15:44
=== paran0n9650 is now known as paran0n965
PeGaSuSbut yes, that's the app, apparently15:45
PeGaSuSafter installing, open the Extension Manger, click on the Browser tab inside it and type "show desktop button": https://imgur.com/a/EedOYEJ15:47
Guest6918ok15:47
Guest6918i did all, all perfect thanks all15:47
PeGaSuSinstall the first one (it will ask for a confirmation) and you should automatically have a "Home" button on the top right of your screen15:48
Guest6918i just don't know if it's better a button on app bar or the little icon by this extension, but maybe it's better this extension, i put it on top left, near the button to change to a seocno, third, .... ecc.. desktop15:48
PeGaSuSthere's no other option, afaik. I just installed a Ubuntu VM for this. (I use Xubuntu on a daily basis)15:51
ioriaa simple 'wmctrl -k on' in a .desktop file works here15:54
PeGaSuSstill need to install whatever provides `wmctrl`. he asked for a button. he has a button15:56
=== pong_ is now known as pong
Guest6918PeGaSuS, no, someone else told me that exist an app to put un app bar, or it's possible to create it as a command inserted in a little app wiht an icon and after put it on app bar15:58
Guest6918PeGaSuS, i found this https://drive.google.com/file/d/1YwRV9F6rHpsaL3ELIJ6XYrPnZZQlsfA0/view?usp=sharing16:00
Guest6918but it caused so much troubles because it installed so many other apps with it, and after it was difficutl to unistall all, even because the app never appears at all in app menu, and never works16:01
lotuspsychjeGuest6918: installing more extensions 'could' make gnome unstable16:02
lotuspsychjeGuest6918: whats your endgoal exactly to show desktop at the end?16:03
PeGaSuSlike I said, I don't use Ubuntu daily and for me Win+D works like a charm.16:03
lotuspsychjeswitching an empty workspace, also gives you a desktop16:03
Guest6918i never installed extensions, just know to show desktop, in past i just installed app from app center and only few times if i remember well 2 or 3 apps i installed donwloading them by site and not installed by app center, maybe because they didn't appear in app center16:04
lotuspsychjeGuest6918: yes, but whats your purpose at the end of showing desktop?16:05
lotuspsychjeyou need a quick access to icons/files from desktop?16:06
Guest6918lotuspsychje, because when I need to open things from the desktop, it's inconvenient and distracting that every time it creates a new desktop with new windows, instead by returning directly to the main desktop I always use that one and I keep everything under control more easily16:09
lotuspsychjeGuest6918: im using workspace indicator in the right upper corner: https://imgbox.com/xZ3IzMRL16:14
lotuspsychjewith a single click you get redirected to the workspace of your choice16:15
Guest6918lotuspsychje, and where is it activated? Where should I look? Is this feature already pre-installed in Ubuntu?16:20
lotuspsychje!info gnome-shell-ubuntu-extensions | Guest691816:23

Guest6918lotuspsychje, PeGaSuS make me installed this https://github.com/mjakeman/extension-manager16:27
lotuspsychjeGuest6918: thats gnome-shell-extension-manager like from the ubuntu repos16:29
Guest6918ok but i need that extension manager to install an applet16:36
Guest6918https://imgbox.com/xZ3IzMRL16:36
Guest6918i don't know where to take this u linked16:36
Guest6918lotuspsychje, this is the applet by PeGaSuS https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/4267/show-desktop-applet/16:36
Guest6918lotuspsychje, i don't understand where to find this.... https://imgbox.com/xZ3IzMRL16:51
lotuspsychjeGuest6918: open a terminal then: sudo apt install gnome-shell-extensions gnome-shell-ubuntu-extensions gnome-shell-extension-manager gnome-shell-extension-prefs16:52
Guest6918which is the name in app center?16:53
Guest6918i often did problmes by terminal16:53
Guest6918lotuspsychje,16:55
lotuspsychjeGuest6918: you cant find 'all' packages on the repos with the app center, some packages need manualy install16:55
Guest6918i have also synaptic to manage packages16:55
Guest6918for case is this? https://wiki.gnome.org/Apps/Tweaks16:56
lotuspsychjeno, gnome tweaks is to manage other things16:57
Guest6918lotuspsychje, https://drive.google.com/file/d/1PUFT-484x9JVZDSbr6-aTBRmtmXo3tnt/view?usp=sharing16:59
Guest6918this is the app pegasus told me to install, before install "Show desktop applet" by this link https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/4267/show-desktop-applet/17:00
PeGaSuSI tested everything before. after `sudo apt install gnome-shell-extension-manager` I just had to search for the app extension and install it17:25
ioriayou still need chrome-gnome-shell if you want to install via browser17:27
ioriabut i doubt he installed anything at all17:28
PeGaSuSyeah. I went through the simplest route, by using the Extension Manager to search and install the extension17:29
ioriayep17:29
PeGaSuSalso,  because the one on the website doesn't work on Ubuntu 25.04 (the one from Valent-in) but the one from amivaleo does17:30
