xless1my /dev/sda does not have a '1' device, e.g. /dev/sda1, but there should be?02:39
rboxwhat do you mean "Should"'02:40
xless1it is a crashed ssd, nvme, in a usb interface now02:41
xless1i wanted to run fdisk, and testdisk to try and recover some files02:41
rboxso run fdisk02:41
rboxrun testdisk02:42
xless1i ran a windows 11 cd that was scripted, and it got as far as reparting my drive before i pulled the plug02:42
xless1sudo fdisk /dev/sda "cannot open /dev/sda: Invalid argument"02:42
rboxwell thats generally not good02:43

rboxif its usb and you're getting invalid argument, the usb adapter is garbage02:47
rboxor the drive is dead02:47
xless1it shows up as /dev/sda, but there was no partition table, im guessing02:48
SnailmanHello! I am looking for some help troubleshooting issues with resuming from sleep. I'm on Kubuntu 25.10 (Wayland) using nvidia-driver-580. My issue is that sometimes (not always) when resuming from sleep, I get a black screen. I can't swap to a TTY. I have this .conf file in my /etc/modprobe.d/ folder:02:52
Snailman# This file was generated by nvidia-driver-58002:52
Snailman# Set value to 0 to disable modesetting02:52
Snailmanoptions nvidia-drm modeset=102:52
Snailman# Preserve video memory on suspend/resume02:52
Snailmanoptions nvidia NVreg_PreserveVideoMemoryAllocations=102:52
xless1i have to go back to booting the microsd with ubuntu desktop, with the drive in the nvme slot, to access it02:52
xless1Snailman, any useful logs in dmesg?02:53
SnailmanI'm not super familiar, any suggestions on what to look for?02:54
xless1i think the command was to review journal02:55
Snailmanxless1 Sorry, I don't understand what you mean02:56
xless1Snailman, <famaz> xless1: also check errors close to a wakeup time, for ex. :"journalctl -b -1 -p err..alert | less"02:56
Snailmanxless1 here's that journalctl output: https://pastebin.com/1DrLQcSK03:00
=== SixterBR8775 is now known as SixterBR877
Snailmanxless1 I also looked for logs with nvidia|error. This block seems relevant: https://pastebin.com/WSq1LaUW03:02
xless1Snailman, "Nov 20 20:51:01 wes-pc kscreenlocker_greet[11110]: PAM unable to dlopen(pam_sss.so): /usr/lib/security/pam_sss.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or director"03:03
xless1which package is it a part of ?03:03
xless1i thought to configuration should be internally consistent such that all libs are resolved03:04
Snailmanxless1 I have no clue actually03:05
xless1dpkg command, im thinking03:05
Snailmanxless1 you mean, you think it's something I installed with dpkg?03:05
xless1the screensaver packagge, kscreenlocker_greet, it would depend on a file that is belonging to an installed package03:06
xless1"This error means the system is trying to use a PAM (Pluggable Authentication Modules) module, specifically pam_sss.so, but cannot find the file pam_sss.so. This can be fixed by either installing the necessary SSSD (System Security Services Daemon) package or by removing the reference to pam_sss.so from the PAM configuration files, especially if you are not using an AD/LDAP integration. "03:07
Snailmanxless1 Oh, gotcha. I ran `dpkg -l | grep pam` and got these packages: https://pastebin.com/jqChtXMq03:07
xless1https://lists.debian.org/debian-qt-kde/2025/11/msg00054.html03:08
xless1To validate file consistency across all dpkg packages, the recommended tool is debsums. The dpkg command can verify individual packages using the --verify or -V option, but debsums is better suited for checking all installed packages simultaneously.03:09
xless1sudo debsums --silent -c03:10
xless1This command checks all installed packages. Files with checksum mismatches will be listed. Files that are configuration files will have their mismatches prefixed with a question mark03:10
Snailmanxless1 Thanks for the links. I've installed libpam-sss, hopefully that will resolve those .so errors. You think those were the cause of my black screen on resume?03:11
xless1i am thinking so, because that was the conclusion of this user, https://lists.debian.org/debian-qt-kde/2025/11/msg00054.html03:12
SnailmanI will try sleeping and see how it goes! Thanks!03:12
xless1okay good luck03:13
Snailmanxless1 I'm back, with bad news - no change03:17
Snailmanxless1 here's my most recent output from `journalctl -b -1 -p err..alert | less`: https://pastebin.com/BuP4y7cp03:19
Snailmanxless1 I do see this line in journalctl right after my attempted resume, wonder if that's related: "Nov 20 22:15:31 wes-pc kernel: xhci_hcd 0000:00:14.0: xHC error in resume, USBSTS 0x411, Reinit"03:20

xless1^^^ not sure if related03:39
xless1did you think it was related to nvidia setting you showed earlier?03:40
xless1i didnt really pay attention to the evidence you brought to the channel about nvidia, can you effect the screen saver from there?03:41
xless1usually i can strace the pid related to screensaver, but that might not be possible, maybe it is i havent tried it03:42

lotuspsychjebrentaarnold: can you make a screenshot of that please13:05
brentaarnoldlotuspsychje, https://snipboard.io/U3wLjy.jpg13:06
JanCmy guess would be it's a custom theme issue?13:06
brentaarnoldPossibly, I downloaded the Dracula GTK theme.13:07
JanCdid the icons become that large after installing the theme?13:08
brentaarnoldI really can't remember to be honest with you. I can try changing the theme and testing, though.13:09
isf369Hello. I installed 'plymouth' on Ubuntu Server which is the boot splash screen program. It comes by default on regular Ubuntu.13:10
brentaarnoldJanC, yep, that seems to have fixed the issue13:10
isf369I see a black screen momentarily before SDDM (my DM, I use LXQt) starts. I would like a seamless transition13:10
lotuspsychjeisf369: whats your endgoal exactly installing GUI packages & DM on ubuntu server?13:17
isf369It's a way for me to install the LXQt DE without uninstalling GNOME from Ubuntu Desktop or using Lubuntu13:18
leftyfbisf369: why not just install lubuntu?13:19
lotuspsychjeisf369: if you want a GUI desktop as endgoal, you need a GUI base to install it on too13:22
lotuspsychjeunless its server + i3 but thats another story13:22

astraahey bro13:23
isf369i've had a full-functioning LXQt DE on Ubuntu Server for about a year13:23
astraahey13:23
astraaanyone here13:24
leftyfbisf369: why?13:24
JanCisf369: the screen blanking might be for several reasons; maybe it has to switch to another graphics mode or maybe SDDM just can't work "seamlessly"?13:37
JanCor you might have a plymouth "theme" that can't work with SDDM13:38
JanCif it works right in lubuntu, you could compare what it uses...13:39

TomyWorkI'm on Kubuntu 24.04 with Wayland and I have 2 monitors: left one running at 1920x1080@240, right one running at 2560x1440@60. If I set the right monitor to 135% scaling, youtube videos in firefox play at a lower framerate (like 20 I'd say). Also, the "Tools" and "Help" menus appear off to the right from where they should be. None of this happens on the left monitor (or on the right monitor if I remove the scaling).
