TJ-Static assignments should be outside the pool range01:08
Sladethey are. i had to shrink the pool range01:09
pragmaticenigmaSlade, it's something that comes to mind. If you didn't do any recent network reconfig with your DHCP server (modem/router). It's my best guess why you might have an IP conflict.01:09
Sladeand the ip conflict is coming from the same ubuntu machine.. somehow01:09
TJ-Slade: same Ubuntu machine as what?01:09
TJ-Slade: you mean there are multiple DHCP requests from the same host for a single IP providing different MAC addresses?01:10
Sladeso some machines can connect to the ubuntu machine and some cant. the ones that can see a mac address ending in 33.. the ones that cant see f7.. both ping ok01:11
TJ-Slade: something has MAC randomisation enabled?01:11
pragmaticenigmaSlade: the other possibility is that a device that was DHCP is still requesting and getting the IP address it was assigned that was in the old DHCP pool. Changing the subnet of the network might force all DHCP devices to pull fresh IPs01:11

TJ-Slade: I've been reading the router manual. Nowhere does it show an ability to alter the DHCP server range or sub-net, *but* it does show the ability to statically reserve an IP to a MAC address. bU1337Pr00fSwedeMike, i am trying to get 5.1 surround sound to work. Already went into settings and enabled it in the sound settings oannel, changed the /etc/pulse/daemon.conf file so default is 6 instead of 2. Used pavucontrol as well but evey time i test the speakers only the stereo channels will output sound. This happens on my laptop as well.06:22

Harishello all06:37
HarisI have xenial install. on login, it says there are updates to be installed. when I run apt-get update; apt-get upgrade it doesn't address them. how do I go about it ?06:38
guivercHaris, try `sudo apt-get dist-upgrade`  (upgrade has more restrictions on what can be upgraded than dist-upgrade - refer `man`)06:39
HarisI'm not looking to upgrade from xenial to art/ful06:39
Harisjust to upgrade a few pkgs on xenial06:40
=== ubuntu is now known as Guest13604
guivercHaris, that'd require a release-upgrade ... try it and it'll ask for permission and you can see what it upgrades - ie. confirm it includes the packages you have held..06:40
guivercfrom `man apt-get` is the following "dist-upgrade in addition to performing the function of upgrade, also intelligently handles changing dependencies with new versions of packages; apt-get has a "smart" conflict resolution system, and06:42
guiverc           it will attempt to upgrade the most important packages at the expense of less important ones if necessary.06:42

ozbrk If you're dual-booting with another OS, the two OSes' boot modes should match. Most computers that ship with Windows 8 and later use UEFI to boot that OS, so this configuration dictates use of UEFI mode when installing and booting Ubuntu.   That is what scares me09:52

windowlaghow are you going to catch regressions if you aren't even testing for them? just rely on bug reports?20:24
GargoyleYou mean from 1404 LTS to 16.04 LTS?20:24
windowlagyes20:24
windowlagmy experience making that transition has been troubled20:24
Gargoyleno. That's not my interpretation of how it works anyway.20:24
windowlagsure, its subjective20:24
windowlagthat's my point20:24
windowlagwords and reality are very different20:25
tgm4883windowlag: I'm pretty confident there wasn't any regressions in GTX1080 support from 14.04 to 16.0420:25
Gargoyle16.04 is a release. That single release will stay stable.20:25
ioriawindowlag, sy, your issue is ? ( apart  considering a 1080 titan a common video card)20:25
windowlagi had huge issues actually tgm , i was running them on a deep learning box, upgraded, many issues20:25
netochkahow can i fix this >>>> > WARNING:root:could not open file '/etc/apt/sources.list'20:25

GargoyleAnd generally, going from LTS -> LTS is pretty safe.20:25
hggdhok. Let's please return to topic; this discussion could proceed on #u-offtopic, or #u-discuss20:25
windowlagioria: it is common, stop being sarcastic like that20:25
ioriaok20:26
Gargoyleahh. do you have cuda unstalled?20:26
windowlagthere are many people using it for deep learning, and even gaming20:26
Asmodeus_kostkon: when I enter my linux acct credentials, it kicks me back to the GRUB main menu20:26
tgm4883windowlag: the GTX180 was released in May, 2016. Long after 14.04 was released. So 14.04 couldn't have had any testing for it20:26
windowlagit's a good price/performance point20:26
kostkonAsmodeus_, weird. could also be a symptom of a corrupted fs/dying HDD. your dconf and sudo, apt problem as well20:26
windowlagit's a very popular card20:26
windowlagi can try upgrading, but then what else breaks?20:26
Asmodeus_kostkon: how would a dying hdd configure grub to need a username/password combo to enter recovery mode?20:27
windowlagi dont want to take that risk tbh, ive wasted enough time pissing around with wifi drivers/firmware20:27
windowlagwhy does the mouse not appear for a good 30 seconds on a fresh install?20:27

ioriawindowlag, ok, it's true there are a lot of regressions about nvidia nowdays20:28
windowlagi dont have cuda installed yet20:28
windowlagive been trying to set this machine up all day20:29
kostkonAsmodeus_, it's just that your system is behaving really strange20:29
tgm4883windowlag: you're right. You've been complaining about how "stable" is the wrong term for it using a definition that only you agree to and we're the ones that are wrong. Ok, I'm off to play some games on my working 107020:29
windowlaginto something you could possibly call a comfortable workstation20:29
Asmodeus_kostkon: I tend to agree with you on that20:29
windowlagon a very popular linux distro, hence the rant20:29
psycoborgi believe the HD i want to use as my data drive for apache is here,20:29

Asmodeus_kostkon: Any suggestions as to what that may be?20:29
windowlagi have to repeat myself in order to get some help20:29
windowlagand im trying to make some useful contributions20:29
hggdhwindowlag: ranting. Enough.20:29
tgm4883windowlag: rantingk, this is the wrong place for it.20:29

Asmodeus_psycoborg: at what path is your hdd mounted?20:30
windowlagyou're just interpreting the tone of my words incorrectly20:30
tgm4883windowlag: please don't use enter as punctuation20:30
ioriawindowlag, please, state your main issue again20:30
Gargoylewindowlag: If you are talking brand new hardware, then this is par for the course.20:30
psycoborgi think it is either this : /dev/sda520:30
psycoborgor20:30
windowlagthese are very neutral words, i think more automated testing should be included in the development cycle, that's all im saying20:30
hggdhwindowlag: and you are interpreting what I am stating. Again. Either report your issue and *KEEP* on technical stuff, of go away20:30
windowlagokay, fair enough20:30

Asmodeus_psycoborg: change that to something sane, say /mnt/hdd20:34
kostkonAsmodeus_, if you can still boot into desktop, then you could open Disks and do all the tests that are available there20:34
windowlagyou are doing a lookup based on their hardware, and theres the notion of "recommended" but if recommended is less than acceptable then it should default to 375 (assuming that is better)20:34

ycyclistOr, actually I may be wrong about that.  My criterion tests work for gcc.  Sorry.21:58

naccphoenix_firebrd: also, this is not the channel to contact developers, bugs are the correct way22:46
phoenix_firebrdnacc: No the issue was discussed for a long time. There is no activity22:46
naccphoenix_firebrd: ... where?22:46
phoenix_firebrdirc22:46
kostkonEquator2018, well it works here, kinda. i click on the play icon, a new window opens and then nothing. it just shows a image in the middle22:46
phoenix_firebrdnacc:  alll the channels, I will tell you which ones22:46
naccphoenix_firebrd: what channel?22:47
Equator2018kostkon: Whee do Iget flash from ?22:47
Equator2018*Where22:47
naccphoenix_firebrd: lol, "all the channels" seems a bit unlikely22:47
phoenix_firebrdnacc: ubuntu, ubuntu+1, kubuntu, kubuntu-devel, the snap channel.22:47
kostkonEquator2018, sudo apt-get install flashplugin-installer   and then restart firefox22:47
Equator2018okay thanks22:48
naccphoenix_firebrd: all of those are support channels22:48
naccphoenix_firebrd: did you file a bug when you did all of this?22:48
phoenix_firebrdnacc: see there is a reason people are logging the irc channels, for reference. A bug report is fine, but discussion via irc should happen22:48
naccphoenix_firebrd: ...22:48
naccphoenix_firebrd: sorry, you're wrong, irc discussions do not in and of themselves lead to any fixes22:49
cr0w__.22:49
Equator2018kostkon: Its already installed :( https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/Gqnvz4jjzx/22:49
naccphoenix_firebrd: also, you never once brought it up on the actual ubuntu development channel22:49
Equator2018Still doesn't work :(22:49
phoenix_firebrdnacc: so you say you can have a conversion in a bug report?22:49
naccphoenix_firebrd: conversation, you mean? yes.22:50
kostkonEquator2018,  sudo apt-get install flashplugin-installer --reinstall  hopefully it will redownload it22:50
Equator2018trying ....22:50
phoenix_firebrdnacc: So i need to file a bug report asking why was the driver in the snap core package updated to the latest one?22:50
naccphoenix_firebrd: you would (i think) post a forum topic for that, to the snapcraft forums22:51
phoenix_firebrdnacc: we need to do some info gathering before we file a bug report, so how do you think we can gather that info?22:51
naccphoenix_firebrd: i feel like you're being a bit ridiculous. I don't know how you expected a fix to get into ubuntu22:51
phoenix_firebrdnacc: they will just redirect me to talk to a ubuntu dev22:52
Equator2018shall have to re-login. See ya soon (if not - I am fine) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0s7ycdUcHk22:52
naccphoenix_firebrd: ... the snapcraft forums are ubuntu developers (for snap side of things)22:52
phoenix_firebrdnacc: let me explain with an use case22:52
naccphoenix_firebrd: no, please don't.22:52
phoenix_firebrdnacc: the vlc snap for example22:52
naccphoenix_firebrd: the bug will either get resolve or it won't, but i don't see how you can expect anything to have changed for ubuntu without a bug report.22:52
naccphoenix_firebrd: snaps are in a different channel, in ay case, #snappy22:53
naccphoenix_firebrd: and there is a contact e-mail address for the core snap22:53
phoenix_firebrdnacc: see this is the thing, its like a ping pong ball. the bug should stop somewhere22:53
naccphoenix_firebrd: how can a bug stop somewhere if it's never filed?22:54
naccphoenix_firebrd: a bug was filed 6 hours ago22:54
naccphoenix_firebrd: it will be triaged now22:54
acheronukregards the normal package, I suggested 8 days ago that you file a bug.22:54
naccphoenix_firebrd: i'm an ubuntu developer, fwiw, so i'm not just talking abstractly22:54
phoenix_firebrdnacc: super, lets go to offtopic then22:55
naccphoenix_firebrd: uh, no.22:55
naccphoenix_firebrd: i've told you what you need, afaict22:55
phoenix_firebrdnacc: No i need a human responce not a bot one22:55
naccphoenix_firebrd: what?22:55
phoenix_firebrdnacc: lets talk22:56
naccphoenix_firebrd: wait til the bug is triaged by timo or someone related.22:56
naccphoenix_firebrd: no, i have no dog in the desktop world.22:56
tessierWow. This channel scrolls a lot and any possible answer to my question yesterday is long gone. :(22:58
nacc!logs | tessier22:58
ubottutessier: Official channel logs can be found at https://irclogs.ubuntu.com/ . LoCo channels are now logged there too. Meetingology logs at https://ubottu.com/meetingology/logs/22:58
tessierooh...thanks!22:59
phoenix_firebrdnacc: I will file a bug, but tell me where should I file a bug to get intel va driver version 2.1.0 in snap core. because driver version 1.8.x's V9 support is broken22:59
Equator2018_kostkon: Still getting the same flash error on firefox - shall I try brave ?23:00
kostkonEquator2018_, yeah see in a different browser23:00
Equator2018_k23:00
phoenix_firebrdnacc: but the thing is the snap devs have already told be that the ubuntu verion 16.10 or 16.04 used cannot be updated soon along with the driver23:01
Equator2018_snap installing .....23:01
naccphoenix_firebrd: i think you are confusing things23:01
naccphoenix_firebrd: the core snap is based on 16.0423:01
tessierhah... tgm4883 never replied so I didn't miss anything. :)23:01
phoenix_firebrdnacc: ya the intel va driver is 1.8.x in it23:01
naccphoenix_firebrd: which has 1.7.0-1 -- if the core snap devs decided to do something else in the core snap, that is a topic for the snap developers (not ubuntu proper)23:01
naccphoenix_firebrd: ok, open a forum topic on the snapcraft forums about the core snap23:02
naccphoenix_firebrd: as i'm sure, if you asked in #snappy, they would have told you to do23:02
naccphoenix_firebrd: there are two problems to solve, the existing bug is to fix ubuntu (not snaps)23:02
naccphoenix_firebrd: a forum post on the snapcraft forums would be to resolve the snap issue23:02
phoenix_firebrdnacc: who is the maintainer of the ubuntu snap core?23:03
naccphoenix_firebrd: canonical.23:03
naccphoenix_firebrd: as the contact: line of the core snap makes clear, as I asked you to look at a bit ago.23:03
phoenix_firebrdnacc: What about cherry picking a patch downsteam? will that be possile for 17.10?23:05
naccphoenix_firebrd: yes, read the SRU guidelines https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates23:06
naccphoenix_firebrd: although that has nothing to do with the snaps, and is about the ubuntu bug, which as i said would get triaged like normal23:06
naccphoenix_firebrd: at this point nothing further needs to be done, except if you want to chase down the core snap issue; hopefully the bug gets resolved soon23:07
phoenix_firebrdnacc: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/intel-vaapi-driver/+bug/175645923:12
ubottuLaunchpad bug 1756459 in intel-vaapi-driver (Ubuntu) "VP9 hardware decoding broken in 17.10, displaying corrupted images in frames while playing videos" [Undecided,New]23:12
phoenix_firebrdI just filed a bug report, so what else do you want23:13
poigphello how can I get rid of this "t=canonical&ia=web" ?23:17
kenrint=canonical&ia=web ?23:18
kostkonkenrin, when using search in firefox23:19
kenrinOh for the ubuntu revenue thing?23:19
kenrinedit /usr/lib/firefox/distribution/searchplugins/locale/  whichever file has your locale23:20
poigpkenrin I have amazondotcom.xml, ddg.xml and google.xml inside the locale. What should I do with this?23:22
kenrinPick whichever one search you are using23:22
kenrinremove the param name="t" value23:22
poigpinisde each xml?23:23
GoopAwayI'm rather new to Lubuntu, I'm used to Ubuntu (the regular flavor), how do you get an HP printer on the same private network/subnet to be recognized on a web browser?23:24
kenrinyeah,  or for just the searches you use.  I think it defaults to duckduck23:24
GoopAwayI installed hplip, but it still won't show up. I have the printer with the IP address of 192.168.0.32 and the PC with the IP address of 192.168.0.223:24
GoopAwayI remember there being something on Ubuntu at home with a Brother printer that the setup bash file thing would find the printer FOR me, and set it up automatically.23:27

mojtabaHello, I have two remote machines, I can login to remote 2 from remote 1, but I can not login to remote 2 from my local machine. Do you know how can I rsync a directory from remote 2 to my local machine?23:36
pragmaticenigmamojtaba: unless you make remote 2 accessable to local, you will have to tunnel your connections via ssh through remote 123:37
mojtabapragmaticenigma: I want to tunnel that, but I don't know how.23:38
mojtabapragmaticenigma: Do you know how should I do that?23:39
filifunkhi!  I'm trying to download a program and get it to work.  It is very confusing to me because it is linux, could someone help me?23:42
geniifilifunk: What program?23:43
pragmaticenigmamojtaba, trying to research that... I'm not sure how to rsync while tunneling through a intermediary computer23:45
mojtabapragmaticenigma: thanks23:45
phoenix_firebrdanyone using intel graphics hardware kabylake+ please tell, need to confirm a bug23:45
filifunkgenil: miniflux23:46
filifunkits an rss reader.  Digg Reader is going to shut down so I figured I'd try an open source program23:46
windowlagi fixed the laggy window issue, my monitors were running at 30hz, as soon as i fixed that they behave normally when dragging (very responsive and always under the mouse cursor)23:46
windowlagso an issue at 30hz (im assuming it's the only factor) has gone unnoticed23:47
geniifilifunk: Google tells me it's written in GO, you might need that as a pre-requisite first23:47
geniifilifunk: eg: package name golang23:49
kostkonfilifunk, https://docs.miniflux.net/en/latest/installation.html#debian-package-installation23:49
filifunkgenii:  hmmm...the requirements page doesn't mention it.  There is a thing on there called postgresql which I've never heard before.  Maybe i have to have that23:49
filifunkkostkon: Hi, yeah I've been trying to figure out that page lol23:49
filifunkso I decided to try debian package installation23:50
filifunkI've gone through step two but step 3 I have no idea if I'm doing it correctly23:50
windowlagso ive finally got my system in a decent state, the secureboot issues should throw an error when they cause a graphics driver to make unity dm fail after login, it's unclear to the novice user23:50
windowlag(one of your target audiences as a distro, i believe)23:50
windowlaganyway, make of it what you will, thanks to those that helped earlier23:51
filifunkI typed in DATABASE_URL and that doesn't do anything and I don't think that's what they are implying23:51
geniiDon't add debian repositories into your Ubuntu, instead just use the same packagenames from regular Ubuntu repos, or PPAs if absolutely required23:51
filifunkI'm sorry I don't know what that means.  Are you saying I should do some sudo apt get sort of thing?23:52
kostkonfilifunk, looks like you need to build the package yourself23:52
filifunkkostkon:  ok, I've downloaded a bunch of things.  I don't know how to build it.  I have a folder called miniflux master that I've downloaded23:54
filifunkgenii:  why not get the debian files...are those separate from ubuntu files?23:55
geniifilifunk: I think you'd be better off following this guide https://www.rosehosting.com/blog/install-miniflux-on-an-ubuntu-14-04-vps/23:55
geniiI wouldn't bother with the PHP5-6 PPA though, just install the php on default repos23:55
pragmaticenigmafilifunk, perhaps rss owl is a better option for you? http://www.rssowl.org/23:56
filifunkpragmaticenigma: I was going to go with that...but that things isn't maintained anymore23:56
filifunkgenii: that looks better23:56
pragmaticenigmafilifunk, just because something isn't maintained, doesn't mean it's bad. It's just reached a maturity and stability that doesn't require a lot of maintenance23:56
filifunkgenii: I don't understand the last thing you said, but maybe I'll justskip the line with the ppa23:57
filifunkpragmaticenigma...on the github page I think it said not to use it as it is vulnerable23:57
geniifilifunk: You should just need: sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install php ..for that part23:58
pragmaticenigma!ask | phoenix_firebrd23:58
ubottuphoenix_firebrd: Please don't ask to ask a question, simply ask the question (all on ONE line and in the channel, so that others can read and follow it easily). If anyone knows the answer they will most likely reply. :-) See also !patience23:58
phoenix_firebrdha ha ha23:59
phoenix_firebrdpragmaticenigma: I will do that only when the above said condition satisfies23:59
