IrcsomeBot<Stefan Kramer> Hi guys, I have a stupid question: Where do I find the "Activate Desktop Effects on Start" setting in 20.04? Did search through whole System Settings but can't seem to find it...13:15
IrcsomeBot<RikMills> @Stefan Kramer, It is now not as simple as that. There is an 'Enable compositor on startup' option in 'Display & Monitor > Compositor' which is required for desktop effects. Then each effect can be togged or configured in 'Workspace behaviour > Desktop effects'13:21
IrcsomeBot<Stefan Kramer> @RikMills, Ah! Did not expect to find it there, indeed. Now everything works again as expected. Thank you so much!13:25

BluesKajHi folks14:02
IrcsomeBot<Adi Ahmad Fauzan> hello everyone, I want to install Kubuntu 20.04 on my laptop. Does anyone know the minimum and recommended system requirements for Kubuntu 20.04?14:03

ubottuHardware requirements to install, boot and comfortably use Ubuntu are listed at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/SystemRequirements - For a !flavor with lower requirements, see !Xubuntu or !Lubuntu14:05

mocalvaohi there14:49
mocalvaoI have changed my ISP and ever since I have had serious issues with accessing the internet. I have 3 machines connected to their modem/router, by cable: 2 Kubuntu desktops and 1 MacBook Pro laptop. I am unable to access, from any of these machines, several sites in the web, both from Firefox and from Chrome browsers. The issue is most conspicuous for the Ubuntu machines, but not exclusively.14:53
mocalvaoI have now tried a different login user and different live usb pendrives and the same issues persist14:54
mocalvaoFurthermore, I have created hotspots from my mobile phones, which use a different ISP and one of the desktops, which came with wifi as well, presents the same issues...14:55
mocalvaoA sample of the sites I have problems with is: ufrj.br, claro, com.br, arxiv.org, kubuntu.org. I do not have problems in accessing youtube (any videos there), gmail, gmeet, for instance. The error is typ8ically (in Chrome) DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN or ERR_ADDRESS_UNREACHABLE14:59
mocalvaoAny suggestions as to what might be the cause?14:59
mocalvaoSomeone suggested perhaps something related to IPv4 vs IPv6, but I do not even know how to start or diagnose furhter. The former ISP hda no issues at all (though with much lower Mbps)15:00
mocalvaoDoes this look like a hardware (the modem/router or my network card) or software (DNS resolution?) problem, or both?15:09
mparillomocalvao: If it is from all your machines, including your Macbook, then I would guess upstream from there. Things I would try: (1) Force a different DNS provider (2) Try forcing IPv4 or IPv6 (3) try https:// in front of your URLs.15:30
mocalvao@mparillo: could you provide the specific instructions for (1) and (2)? I am comfortable with either command line or graphicla interface (from KDE)15:33
mocalvao@mparillo: option (3) did not work15:34
mparilloI have never tried it, but in you system settings network connections you should see both an IPv4 and 6 tab.15:39
mocalvaoIn fact, I checked my KDE System Settings GUI, under Network > Connections, for my wired ethernet, and in the tab for IPv4, the Method is Automatic and I had already inserted Google DNS (8.8.8.8) in the field named Other DNS Servers. The other fields (Search Domains and DHCP Client ID are blank. As for the IPv6 tab,15:40
mocalvaoMethod is Automatic and Other DNS Servers is ::ffff:8.8.8.815:41
mocalvaoUnder IPv6, I tried Method: Ignored, without any effect...15:43
mparillothen I am out of ideas. You could try #ubuntu and ask for command-line solutions. They have many more participants. But since it affects your Macbook, I am sure your ISP should be willing to help, especially if you are using their modem / router. I assume your are in Brasil. In the US, most ISPs will not support any Linux Distro.15:47
mocalvaoI am in fact in Rio de Janeiro. If it helps, here are some more piece of info gathered from inxi -n: Device-1: Qualcomm Atheros QCA9377 802.11ac Wireless Network Adapter, driver: ath10k_pci, IF: wlp3s0 state: down, Device-2: Qualcomm Ahteros Killer E2400 Gigabit Ethernet driver: alx, IF: enp4s0 state: up speed: 1000 Mbps duplex: full15:52
mocalvaoI will then try #ubuntu. Thanks!15:52
mparilloNow that's interesting.  I can ping google.com (looks like IPv6), ufrj.br (looks like IPv4) but not kubuntu.org (IPv4) or arxiv.org (IPv4)15:54
mparilloBut I can open both kubuntu.org and arxiv.org in my browser.16:12
