IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> Switchable graphics?01:00
viewer|12is there a better place to ask about switchable graphics? i figured kubuntu forum would be the way to go01:01
krytarikviewer|12: That'd be the invitation to provide any details on the specific issue you got.01:01
viewer|12i have rx vega integrated graphics and an nvidia gtx 1050 in my laptop. i was able to choose what i wanted to use in windows and wondered if there was a way to do this in kubuntu?01:04
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> @viewer|12, I have no idea how well NVidia will play with AMD under linux.  I recommend using the NVidia PPA (https://launchpad.net/~graphics-drivers/+archive/ubuntu/ppa) and install the NVidia drivers.  Then under the NVidia control panel  -> PRIME Profiles select the desired profile.01:13
krytarikGone already though.01:14
krytarikSo close!01:14
IrcsomeBot<DarinMiller> Dang,  I got distracted.  Thanks for the heads up (harder to see when people leave on Telegram...).01:15

imacproram cpu might be a start06:37
imacproI personally haven't ran into that issue, may be something hardware06:38
imacproIt's like many asking why stem don't run well on Linux, and you find out they don't have a good enough computer to run it, but everyone blames the distros untill they get educated actual requirements vs what you want to do with your computer06:41

IrcsomeBot<Farhad> Hi12:44
IrcsomeBot<thekashyapi> @imacpro, I fixed it.I am using Hardware Encoder instead of Software Encoder.13:20
IrcsomeBot<thekashyapi> But one question how can I update AMD Encoder or AMD Graphics Driver in Kubuntu os13:21
=== dsf_ is now known as dsf
BluesKaj@thekashyapi, are you having graphics issues or just want the "latest and greatest"?14:00
IrcsomeBot<thekashyapi> @BluesKaj, I have two graphics card Intel and AMD when I switch to AMD encoder for recording then OBS Studio shows that AMD encoder is not Updated....there is no problem with Interl Graphics only issue for AMD Graphics Update for OBS Studio recording14:04
BluesKajthe OBS Studio app requires OpenGL 3.2 which isn't availble in the repos yet, the current version is OpenGL 3.114:13
MrElmoI installed Kubuntu 20.10 last night and the sound was working. It's not working now, and I've checked muting, volumes, etc, but still not working. Sound is working fine and Win10, but I prefer linux.14:46

mmmi tried kubuntu on 4gb ram and cpu usage was 1000% idk why and system was lagging too much any comments?20:37
tomreynwe dont't know either.20:39
mmm100*20:39
mmm100*20:39
mmmi read an article which says kde has similar memory usage wrt XFCE around ~500mb20:39
mmmΒ and when i booted the memory was ~490 mb but cpu usage was around 6%-15 % then i opened firefox and boom cpu usage 100 % closed it thenlaunched terminal just to realize it doesnt have neofetch20:39
mmmsuring installion cpu usage again 100%20:39
mmmΒ idle system installing neofetch from terminal :CPU USAGE 100% constant for minutes20:39

tomreynyou can now talk again20:40
mmmhttps://paste.ubuntu.com/p/y32YfcM2D3/20:41
tomreynthat article is wrong, or outdated20:42
tomreyn4 gb should be fine for running a basic desktop and a web browser20:43
mmmwell the article is recent , also the ram usage was legit 490 mb without swap idk about the swapfile though20:44
tomreynwith 500 mb ram, even your installation will likely fail20:44
mmmdo you think is it a bug or smth coz i tried the usb on another hardware sill it was same20:44
mmmhow?20:45
tomreynyou probably forgot to ensure that the downloaded installer image isn't broken, or that the installer media you created with it isnt broken, or both.20:45
mmmhmm if this was the case it would have not booted up in the first place20:46
tomreynno, you can't conclude this way around20:46
tomreynjust because it boots doesn't mean the installer is complete, fine, non.broken20:47
mmmok to be safe i ll recreate the usb and come again20:47
tomreynsee "Verify your ISO download" on https://kubuntu.org/getkubuntu/20:47
mmmtil the time bieng do you suggest using kde with 4 gb of ram or should i try another De?20:47
tomreynthat's where you start, and then you write it to the installer media again and then you verify it got written there properly20:48
mmmhow do you check if it has been written properly or not?20:48
tomreyni think 4GB is the minimum requirement. you can work with it, if you don't do massive stuff like ray tracing, or video encoding or machine learning or whatever20:49
tomreynbalena etcher can check the data written, or you can check it using dd + compare20:50
mmmtom can you tell me your current ram usage at idle? maybe the team did somthing like okay we will use less ram but more CPU20:50
tomreyni'm not running kubuntu right now, but this would also differ by installation, and by hardware.20:50
mmmshold i try another kde distro?20:51
tomreynhttps://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/214488/how-one-can-re-read-image-with-dd-so-it-will-match-one-you-just-wrote20:51
mmmis there any way to save this convo of ours?20:51

tomreynthose are delayed by ~ 30 miuntes20:51
tomreynyou can also copy and paste from the webchat, i think20:52
tomreyni haven't been using the webchat in a long time, so not sure20:52
mmmthanks20:54
mmmwhat about feren os?20:54
mmmorΒ  MX linux kde20:54
tomreynto inspect the kernel log (which would contain info on hardware errors or serious problems running linux on it), run    journalctl -kb   in a terminal20:54
tomreynthis channel is about kubuntu, and nothing else.20:54
mmmor KDe neon20:54
tomreynthere is also ##linux20:55
mmmokay let me repharse my question20:55
tomreyni think i told you all you will need to know for solving this problem, just follow those steps one by one.20:57
mmmhttps://paste.ubuntu.com/p/38TmvVCbHt/20:58
mmmtom?21:00
tomreynmmm: if my computer had just 4 GB RAM i'd prefer xubuntu over ubuntu (gnome) or kubuntu on it. but YMMV.21:06
mmmi dont like xfce :cry21:09
mmmxfce is just a no no and with the fact that it uses aournd 600 mb ram and kde will use maybe 100-150 mb extra doesnt bother me21:09
geniiThis old 2008 Acer runs Kubuntu 18.04 on 4GB without much issue, but having SSDs installed also helps a lot21:10
mmmbut Kubuntu littery used 480mb ram which was lower then xfce the only prob was cpu usage if that gets fixed it will be a happy start21:10
mmmgenii is the messiah21:11
mmmokay guys i need to rebbot , so how to reconnect ?21:11
geniiWhat did you use the first time to arrive here? ...Konversation, perhaps?21:13
tomreynthe webchat21:13
geniiAh21:13
tomreynbut you'll be better off switching to a proper irc client like konversation once it's installed21:14
mmmill try21:15
