nosrednaekim!autostart03:25
ubotuTo make programs autostart with your KDE session, you can make a link to it in ~/.kde/Autostart. The package 'kcontrol-autostart' makes a kcontrol item for handling items in that directory.03:25

slim_am I communicating correctly in here?05:50
NickPrestaslim_, yeah but there appears to be no one around who can help you with apache related questions. You might want to try pastebin'ing your whole question and asking it later05:52

NickPrestaslim_, as for the CGI problem, make sure you have: "AddHandler cgi-script .cgi" directive (as well as ExecCGI to the Options directive). Aside from that, I don't know much about the Apache package in the repos.05:56

adamonline46ardchoille: Very well, I appreciate it... I've got about as much experience as you :)  I think I only own like 8 or so DVDs, I just decided I'd rather not have to hunt through the 'massive' pile to play the one I want; I'm a file kinda guy 8)  Happy holidays, etc; thanks again 8)07:30

TonrenI just did a fresh install of Kubuntu 7.10.  My splash graphic is not appearing on boot-up, so I can't see how far into the boot process I am.  (Also it's disconcerting to see absolutely nothing happening on the screen).  How do I enable my boot splash?13:47
damiryou probably need to change x display settings13:48
Tonrendamir: How do I do that?13:48
damirwell, you could edit the file /etc/X11/xorg.conf, but you need to know what you're doing13:49
Tonrendamir: I tend to know, but I don't know what I should change in xorg.conf to enable bootsplash.13:49
Tonrendamir: I have a crappy integrated ATI 300Mobile graphics card, for which the restricted drivers have been enabled.  Could the problem be there?13:49
damirhm.. possibly. did you see a bootsplash on 1st boot-up?13:50
damirand, does login screen look ok?13:50
Tonrendamir: Unfortunately, I can't remember if I saw a bootsplash before they were enabled.  THe login screen looks just fine, though.13:50
Tonrendamir: My graphics driver is set to "fglrx", which I've heard awful things about.  Should I try changing it to ATI?13:51
damirdo you see a progress screen on system shut-down?13:51
Tonrendamir: No.13:51
=== profoX_ is now known as profoX`

Tonrendamir: Don't worry, I know how to log in on the command line and edit xorg.conf without a GUI.  No need for a backup.13:52
Tonrendamir: Should I just restart X or completely shut down?  The problem areas seemed to be with startup & shutdown, but it's kind of a hassle.13:52
damirfor start, just restart x-server and see if your login screen is ok13:53

fairmanHi, i need support for right settings resolutions and frequency on my monitor. Corresponding part of xorg.conf is here - http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org/49682/. I can use only the resolution 800x600 ... why? When i set the "driver" to "nv" instead of "nvidia" it is ok, but i can not use openGL support14:04
noaXessis there a kde mounting tool, that really mounts the networkshare ot any given mount.point? so i can access it over different app?14:05

Sannehttps://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kubuntu-default-settings/+bug/15622514:05

SanneTonren: dunno, just found those bugs and thought they might help you in some way :)14:07
TonrenSanne: Haha, thanks.  I sure hope I don't need to compile my own kernel.14:07
TonrenMaybe if I just reinstall or reconfigure the bootsplash package...14:07
SanneTonren: before doing that I really would just turn the splash off ;)14:07
SanneTonren: before compiling a kernel, I mean14:08

SanneTonren: haha... *I* turned that darn thing off right away, I *want* to see the boot messages ;)14:09
TonrenSanne: I used to feel that way, but I prefer the terse, shiny startup screen now. If something goes wrong, I just check the logs.14:09
SanneTonren: in that case, I wouldn't give up either, but if it's a known bug and you got bitten by it, you might need to build a kernel. So there ;)14:10

vivekhow to configure Gmail in Kmail16:33
trappistvivek: you'll set it up as a pop3 account.  you can get the settings from the gmail site.16:34
Jucatohttp://element14.wordpress.com/2006/09/28/setting-up-gmail-in-kmailkontact/ looks good16:35
FOADWhen I boot (cq log in to the graphical system), my USB drives won't show on the desktop, and they are not mounted either.  Same problem when I ctrl-alt-backspace out of X and back again.  Currently  I unplug/plug a device, and then all devices show up on my desktop (but still unmounted).  How can I ensure that 1) the devices show up on logging in and 2) get mounted straightaway?  I don't want to put things in fstab, because not all devices may be present.16:35
vivekwhat to mention in the host field??16:35

BluesKajhmmm, what's the command for removing/uninstalling compiled apps ?16:52
jpatrickBluesKaj: make uninstall from the build dir16:53
Jucatomake uninstall16:53
Jucatopft16:53
DragnslcrUsually make uni16:53
DragnslcrBlah16:53
PiciBluesKaj: also you may want to use checkinstall to make removing easier.16:53

Pici!checkinstall | BluesKaj16:53
ubotuBluesKaj: checkinstall is a wrapper to "make install", useful for installing programs you compiled. It will create a .deb package, which will be listed in the APT database and can be uninstalled like other packages. See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/CheckInstall - Read the warnings at the top and bottom of that web page, and DO NOT interrupt CheckInstall while it's running!16:53
PiciIn the future that is.16:53
geniiBluesKaj: If there is no uninstall in the makefile, try instead make clean or make dist-clean16:58

jhutchins_wkFOAD: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AutomaticallyMountPartitions17:01
jhutchins_wkFOAD: That's more for auto-mounting windows partitions, but since usb devices are usually FAT32 it should apply.  Tells you how to set 'em up in fstab.17:01
FOADjhutchins_wk: thanks for the pointer.  Reading it now.17:02

kkathmanlol17:04
FOADjhutchins_wk: sadly it's all about editing fstab, which is exactly what I am not after...17:07
kkathmanFOAD I assume your USB drives are windows/FAT drives ?17:10
kkathmanbecause if they are linux drives they WILL automatically mount17:10
FOADNo, ext3.17:10
FOADkkathman: well, obviously you are wrong.17:10
kkathmanthen you are doing something wrong, because I have one that I mount everyday17:10
FOADBecause they WON'T.17:11
kkathmanno Im not I17:11
FOADFine, I'm doing something.17:11
FOADBut what?17:11
FOADThis is a fresh 7.10 install.17:11
FOADOf Kubuntu.17:11
FOADSomething wrong, that is.17:11
kkathmanyes, because this one does  not a problem whatsoever17:11
FOADOk, we've established that you have no problem.17:11
kkathmannow windows ones will not17:11
FOADHowever I do.17:11
FOADAnd again, if I do unplug/plug a device once in the desktop, they all show up.17:12
kkathmannow I will say that under ubuntu/kubuntu they auto-mount, but on my openSUSE system they do not - I have to manually issue a mount command17:12
FOADNot mounted though.17:13
kkathmanif you can see them using fdisk -l  usually they show up as sdb or sdc or something17:13
kkathmanthen just issue the mount command on it17:13
